As this site seems to indicate that you can't have broadband if you pay your line rental to primus but doesn't alaborate on the reasons why?
For those who don't want broadband, unusually the two cheapest calls providers both allow override calls to be made from them even if you sign up for their line rental. BT is £11.25 a month (£14 without direct debit or paper-less billing) including evening and weekend calls if you get a year's contract while Primus Home Saver* is £9.50 for the same, there are savings to be made. For more details see the best-buy section.
What I want to know, is it possible to pay line rental to primus @ £9.50, then get broadbrand through plusnet @ £6.99? or do I need to have the line renatl through BT?

The simple answer is that these companies cross subsidise their products. They want you to take telephony and internet as a combined product. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I can't have the line through primus then go with another broadband provider then?0

Yep - You can.
You need to have a BT 'telephone line' though. However, you can have a BT line, pay BT nothing, but pay Primus for the line rental and calls costs. You can then pay us for your broadband service.
Make sense?“Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of Plusnet. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You need a BT line, but don't have to pay line rental to BT. For example I have Plusnet broadband but pay line rental to Tiscali (Pipex). No free lunch, and no free laptop0
