I really hope its not just rice? That would lead to serious nutritional deficiencies over time - too low in protein, no iron, few minerals, too low in fat, no essential fatty acids, to mention just a few things it lacks!
I feed Wagg, if I was to swap I would look at CSJ - they have a good reputation amongst many dog owners, and they send out free samples if you email and ask! My dog loved the samples!
google CSJ dog fodd to find their website!0 -
Ooh, sorry to hijack your thread OP but I've been wondering what to feed my puppy too.
He has Wagg Puppy at the moment but is about to run out, and I'm dithering over getting his next bag of food!
My mum's dog has the adult version of Wagg (seems to like it), and he loved that when we were on holiday recently (although it may have been because it wasn't his!).
He is 5 months old and a Jack Russell - would the adult version be ok do you think?
On another note: my pup poops a lot though and there is one dry dog food that is supposed to reduce 'wastage' in some dogs - anyone know which it is?0 -
Our dogs alway used to struggle on rich tinned dog food, pedigree etc and they were fed on dryed food for the majority of their lifes (Lab and a Yorkshire terrier). We used Vitalin and a massive sack used to last months, although i guess it's pricey to start with.

The price of the bag of food is irrelevant to calculating the cost - what you want to do is work out cost per day. Use the feeding guide on the back of the packet to work out daily rations and see how long that bag will last. Then divide the price of the bag by the number of days - may be a calculator job - to give cost per day. Better quality foods will have greater digestibility and a lower daily feeding amount thus leading to a lower cost per day. Hills and Proplan are often cheaper per day then Pedigree (not calculated it with the others). The added advantage of using a top quality, highly digestible food rather than an own brand is that there is less waste to pick up as more is absorbed.
Super premium brands - Proplan, Hills, Royal Canin
Premium Brands - Burns, James Wellbeloved, Eukanuba, Wafcol
Average - Bakers, Pedigree, Wag
Own Brands and very cheap diets
It is all down to the quality of ingredients and digestibility.0 -

I didn't realise that Proplan was a super premium brand do you mean that as Super Premium brand in Quality or Price?
I am about to change my 9 month old pup from Proplan to Burns I thought Burns was a more natural better quality food?0 -

Burns makes my Staff's coat come up very shiny and healthy. She also is much better behaved on it. Although for some reason she prefers it stale.0 -
I go by james wellbeloved and get an approving nod from the vets when they ask me what food I use.
It is reasonably pricy but have heard horrible stories about other foods i.e. iams and how they test on animals, and pedigree and how it can lead to diabetes in dogs.
I also have a cat that used to get cystitis on any other dry food, but is doing really well on james wellbeloved.0 -

Fingers crossed...... I'm hoping for better behaviour too! Also he gets "tear stains" (his breed?) and it does say in the burns literature that it can prevent this which would be great as I currently have to clean his eyes every night to keep on top of it.
For me it is also going to work out cheaper than Pro Plan as it should cost me roughly £2 a week as he weighs 9-10kg.0
