Try performance tyres, like Goodyear F1s. They are a soft compound and when combined with enthusiastic cornering they last about 10K.

Yep, but thats still 100% more than the OP was getting .

I noticed the same problem on my car last weekend, a little more wear on the inside shoulder of the front tyres. These ones have been on since new and have done just under 22k. Over all the front tyres are wearing out overall, I am not sure if they are considered hard or soft but as others have pointed out I would rather had something that gripped to the road than cheapies that last for ever but are crap.

    Check the tyre pressure.

Get the tracking checked too. Most likely causes is too much negative camber due to hitting pot holes, kerbs and speed humps.

My set of Firestones had to be replaced at 16K although there was still a bit of tread on them the outside edges were totally scrubbed (I have to go over about 25 speed bumps a day which had thrown the tracking out).

Someone recommended Kuhomo tyres to me so I am currently giving their Ecsta range a go .. seem fine so far and were only £40 a corner.

Thanks to all those who replied - I took the car to National Tyres today and had the fronts replaced (£271:eek:) and the tracking done - they said it was way out. They also advised to have it checked every so often (foc) but then you're in the hands of the garage if they say it needs realigning  ....

Are your tyres the cheapest things on the market or do you just drive very "ahem" enthusiastcally?
Very much the latter! "Cheap" tyres are a false economy, given that they are the only contact point between your car and the road.

You've got a problem with your tracking which you need to get sorted before you put new tyres on. Normal wear on a tyre should be even across the whole width of the tyre.

As far as how long tyres should last, it all depends on how you drive, what tyre compound you get, etc. I'm happy with anything over 5k miles from a set of rears and 8k on fronts (on a rear wheel drive car).
Probably an Aston Martin or something? :rotfl:
