Thinking of switching - haven't got a clue!

Options
I don't even know where to start. :o :rotfl:

Basically, just me renting a two bed flat. Been with Southern Electric for both gas and electric since I moved in 13 months ago. Got another 11 months on this tenancy agreement, not sure what I'll be doing when this one expires.

So, can I switch provider for maybe only 11 months? Is there a minimum contract with these things, like 12 months?

If I can change, how do I go about getting the best deal? I really have no clue when it comes to utility bills (bad I know) so really need an idiots (me) guide please, if anyone can point me in the right direction. :)

Oh, and pay monthly by DD, and it's just gone up to cover the 'arrears' where my monthly estimates were too low. I take it I'd have to pay these off first would I?

    Have you tried here?

    MSE guide to switching

You would have to pay any outstanding amount when you switch.
    Not even wrong
  • Right, energyhelpline is suggesting I can save £125 a year by switching to EDF.

They offer £15 cashback aswell. Is this the best way to switch?

ETA: I see Quidco offer £60 for dual fuel. Do they offer the same price as they would through energyhelpline?
  • Bump.

Do not switch via energyhelpline or other comparison sites - just use them for their calculator.

Always check topcashback.co.uk and quidco.com (or other cashback sites) first before switching to get an idea of what better cashback offers are available - currently topcashback will give you £60 for a dual switch to EDF - a lot more than £15!

As to arrears, if you are on direct debits and estimated readings then you will not need to pay off any arrears first (but they will be due when you switch). Switches are only blocked with quarterly billing where debts are already known and more than a quarter old.

    Usually.

Ah, your debits have already been increased so your supplier already knows so you will have to pay the debt off first or your supplier will block your transfer. Probably.
