Because you're not intelligent, curious, questioning, independently-minded, lateral-thinking, diligent in your research before making important decisions, investigative of alternative solutions, resistive of peer-pressure, don't abhor false-economy and lack the courage to buck the trend if there is merit in doing so and aren't appreciative of quality, efficiency and excellence?

    :p

    That's right actually.

    Diligent people all own iPods.

    Well known fact that.

    Did I? :o (What a smart-a**).

I like people who are smart. :)

(More especially if they are also female and have a nice a!! :D )

And I appreciated your observation to which I referred. Keeps one's thinking disciplined. ;)

You have more diligence on a lazy day, Fifer, than most posters on here apply in a month of thought - even if they understood what the word means (let alone knew how to spell it! )

    I guess yours serves kool-aid.

    I fail on both counts.

I had somehow figured that would be so. (Well, the former anyway; the latter thus became a consideration that, for me, was thereby rendered academic. :) )

So, we'd better just concentrate on the "smart" bit from now on! :D

Just for a laugh, walk in to a computer store and ask if they will sell you a PC without any OS on it. I bet they lie, and tell you it's illegal and breaches piracy laws.

BTW, 90% of the PC World staff at their Stanway store use Macs, and are a great source of technical info.

Of course they have a choice in the matter. Apple have rather large retail displays in Best Buy stores (like Currys, in pretty much every way) here in the US for instance:

which are always crowded with people oohing and aahing over the Macs. For the price of a copy of Windows 7, Microsoft is attempting to "re-educate" the sales people to recommend Windows PCs.
    .....
    .

My local PCWorld has a section like that, its far bigger and prettier but it never even as busy as in that picture. The new apple store in the local shopping centre is very busy (although lots are kids just wanting to play with the computers. the old apple store (been there for decades, not a bad location just doesnt have the newer apply stylish look) never ever has more then a few people in it.

I have asked the local pc world before and they just said they dont stock anything without an o/s, its not really their demographic really, like they wont sell me anything with a core i7-975 either.

I do wonder what the apple people would say if i asked them for a comp without OSX tho...

It's not exactly new tactics to the business world Microsoft are employing... Makes me wonder though - why these apparently 'perfect' people, who do all that stuff mentioned in Leopard's essay need an article to tell them something anyone else who understands even a bit about the business/sales world knew and accepted quite some time before.

I would imagine probably no but I don't really know. However, I would have thought that they are not really comparable situations. Apple is an Apple shop for Apple products, where as PC World is a computer shop to sell computer products. Apple only offer one current operating system OS10.6(maybe 5 as well) whereas computers in general offer multiple operating systems, including Vista and Windows 7 as well as OSX and the many linux and other UNIX distributions.
