I've finally done it! No more landline for me! If you do not use your landline that often, and have only kept it for internet access, then i recommend going on to 3's mobile broadband. i as paying £26-28 per month for landline / 5gb internet allowance. Now i just pay £15 per month and i have increased my internet allowance to 15gb! and can make cheaper calls via pc too.

I did the same thing recently. A cheap PAYG mobile phone and prepaid mobile broadband are all that I have now. I wish that I had done it earlier.
I did read up on reasons for needing a landline before cancelling, but decided that they were not enough to make it worth keeping.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

You dont need mobile broadband to get broadband only . Virgin offer it if you live in a cable area, and its much more reliable then 3.0

Useful info about Virgin cable, I will investigate just in case.
However, I have a prepaid 3g dongle that should last until the middle of 2011 and it is costing me only around £5 per month. I am satisfied with the speed and it meets my requirements.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

If you need a incoming geographical number for any reason you can get a VOIP 01/02 geographical number free and point it at any UK Mobile you like, you pay for the diverted leg of call.
Or you can get 01/02 number direct to mobile on o2 and pay nothing for divert.

Another alternative is to point the voip geographical number direct to voicemail, and get it to e-mail you when someone leaves a message.0 -
That link returns a 404 message now.utilitybroker wrote: »Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. you are very lucky and I hope things do not turn out 2b as bad as they were for me with 3 mobile - awful reliability, slow when it did work and terrible customer service!0 -

My mobile connection here is 26kbps. Yes, that's kbps.
I'll stick with copper for now.0 -
You don't need a Virgin phone line for broadband.I was offered it for £9.99 per month 10mb and it's unlimited.0
