I have a satellite dish (for foreign channels) with the recever in the living room and I would like to be able to watch the broadcast on my computer in the study room. Is it a matter of just having an extension from the receiver to the computer? my computer is only 6 months old with freeview TV card and very good specs. ...any ideas please?

You should be able to connect a co-ax cable from the RF out on the sat receiver to the TV card on your PC to view the broadcasts. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
thanks mate for the quick reply..so I dont need any special card for the PC...thats good news0

Or for more flexibility (e.g. if you want to view different channels on PC and living room at the same time), you could fit a dual/quad LNB and feed from a spare LNB output directly to a DVB-S tuner in the PC, such as this one:

now my next question is...in order to watch freeview on my PC i have to turn on windows media player..what application i need to use to watch satellite once i connected the coaxial cable?0

I'd suggest you try it close up first before running a long coax because I doubt that a freeview (digital) card is going to handle the rf out from a sat box which will be analogue.
To watch freeview you'll need a TV aerial.0 -
kb's made a good point - unless your freeview card is a dual analogue and digital tuner, the digital tuner's aerial input won't make any sense of the RF output from the satellite receiver.
Do you know what make and model of TV card is in the PC?0 -
the sat box is digital and not analogue...will that make difference?0

It won't help - satellite uses DVB-S, while Freeview uses DVB-T. The two aren't compatible.0

It's all illegal to do any of them.

It's illegal to do any of that.
1. You dont own the content to re-broadcast.
2 If you connect any sort of tuner to a tv you need to pay another tv licence.0
