New ASDA Refund policy

  • Does anyone here who works for Asda know the situation regarding faulty electrical goods when you have a receipt but no original packaging?
My friend bought something the other day which came in a plastic bubble pack... She had to cut it open to remove the item which transpires to have developed a fault a couple of days later. Asda are now refusing to replace/refund without the original packaging which she threw away due to having sharp edges and a small child in the house

If the item is faulty then the lack of packaging is irrelevant. Sometimes it is not possible to open an item's packaging without destroying it. In other cases (e.g. with a TV) the packaging is too large to keep.

SOGA does not require that faulty goods must be returned with packaging.

Can anyone that knows/works at Asda help with this please?

My son's acer netbook(yes bought one of the £150 earlier this year) has stopped loading and keeps saying error 24.I've tried looking online to see if i can fix it but can't find anything. Now we have never really liked it since buying it.Can't get used to linux etc.

As it's not been a year yet bought in January can i just take it back for a full refund or will they argue that it has to be sent back to acer to be repaired?
As i said i would rather just go in and get the £150 back to put towards a laptop instead for him.Can i say if they do argue that it's their reposnability to make sure it's still working before the years up?

    Thanks

Your contract is with Asda so if they tell you to go and send it to them for repair then don't. They do have a right to repair the product in a reasonable time period though instead of a replacement so they can ask for you to bring it in for them to send off....however if its £150 which prob cost Asda £75 and the fact that they will send back to Acer anyway and get there money back means they will prob offer a replacement or refund (don't hold me to it though :) )

  • The policy asks the CSD op to use discresion regarding original packaging.

As for your laptop, take it back. It should be refunded no problem (as long as you have your receipt!).

And as for the electronic journal... you need to each day individually, try terminal by terminal, operator by operator...checking each transaction individually. It can be done, it just requires patience! :)
  • Quick Question:

I have lost my receipt for a dress I bought in George (ASDA) - only got it last week and tags are still on it.

Can I get a refund without it? Or alternatively a giftcard that I can use to buy non food items with?

Thanks for the info on the £2 giftcards. I am often overcharged in Asda and have once been given a giftcard but I thought that was just a goodwill gesture, I wasn't aware that it was their policy to give these for all instances of overcharging and will ask for one in future.

It does not really matter what Asdas ,refund/return policy is does it ?
My statutory rights are the same and are regardless of whatever bumf Asda wants to come out with ,they cannot change my rights as a customer ?!!

Alot of this is what is over and beyond your consumer rights though, so is worth knowing.

I took a deep fat fryer back to Asda in a black bin bag !
Asda say they wont accept returns without packaging and a receipt BUT Asda do not make the law ,although they may think they do ;)
I recently bought a mobile phone from there and the sales assistant said " Make sure you keep the packaging incase its faulty " in a snotty voice ,to which I replied ,if its faulty, i'll get a refund if it comes back in a plastic bag !!
Do they actually teach their employees 'customer rights 'or do they just brainwash them with their version ?
