hi all, i have recently moved and had a lovley lawn to be proud of, until recently the hot weather has killed it off as it was a recently laid lawn,
I am so scared of using the sprinkler on it as we now have a water meter which we have never had before,
what do you think it would relistically cost to have it on for say 1-2 hours per day,
so i can help the lawn to establish , thanks all.

There are sprinklers and there are SPRINKLERS
It depends on your water pressure and type of sprinkler.
However I would think an average garden hose would use about 1 cubic metre an hour and depending where you live, that could cost between £2 and £4 an hour - with £3 being about average.(bear in mind that you will be charged for sewerage* even though none is going back to the sewer.
You can avoid sewerage charges by making a claim to the water company, but it is complicated and another subject altogether. You have to prove that less than 90% of your water returns to sewer.
P.S.
You can measure the sprinkler flow by timing how long it takes to fill a 10 litre container.0 -
I can't help you with the cost of running a sprinkler but why not take a reading, run the sprinkler for 30 mins, take another reading and calculate using that? I'm sure your water co. will have the cost per m3 on their web-site or it will be on your last bill!
