Invite them to take you to court
because I am sure the courts will love hearing about their harassment. Serious note - you can bin or take their harassment further. Here to learn and pass on my experiences.
Had a total of £8200 of debt written off due to harassment during 2010 and 2012.0 -
I have put a template letter for complaining to debt collection agencies on this thread.0

I also received one of the "Trace Confirmation" letters from SRJ Debt Recovery. I was slightly worried as I do not owe any money to any company, I did a bit of research and the company had a legitimate website so I called the phone number on the letter. I tried to get more information as to what the letter was about but the man on the phone would not go any further without my date of birth. I became slightly suspicious so hung up. I then received a second letter at the end of Jan from SRJ with details of an outstanding amount owed to Talk Talk (formerly Tiscali) for £145.00. I was really distressed about this but also extremely angry as I knew I did not owe any money as I have never been in debt. I have since written two letters, one to Tiscali and SRJ and have stated that it is for them to prove that I owe this money. I definitely think that Tiscali are trying to obtain money from ex-customers who they know are unable to provide account information, as the date on my letter was for an account I had with Tiscali over four years ago!! It was also a very big coincidence that a work colleague had also received one of these letters. My advice to anyone that receives this rubbish is to put it straight in the bin as since I have sent a letter of complaint they have not written to me!!0

Tiscali have been helpful(ish) said they'd contact SRJ and tell them to cancel the debt but they still want my money !!!!!!??
SRJ have been ringing me and threatening me they are very nasty and I can imagine if people are vunerable they will be very scared of these people.0 -

My alleged debt was owed to Talk Talk. Rather than complain to SRJ, I went straight to Talk Talk with the letter shown below. They soon took the account off SRJ and brought it back to deal with in-house.
You see, not only does the Office of Fair Trading regulate SRJ as a Debt Collector, they also keep their eye on the clients, in my case Talk Talk.
Whoever your alleged debt is with Talk Talk, AOL, Sky or whoever, write to them formally telling them that you dispute the debt and have issues with how SRJ have dealt with you.
Best practice is really for whichever organisation you allegedly owe the debt to to take the account off SRJ and deal with it themselves.
Please, can everyone who has issues with SRJ Debt Recovery chasing you for unpaid debts log this with the OFT. The more people log this, the more notice will be taken.
The best way of doing this is by calling Consumer Direct (look the number up). Tell them how harrassed you feel (if you do) about being chased for a debt that you don't owe.
I wrote a complaint to SRJ using the templates available on this forum and sent a copy to Talk Talk with the following cover note:
_________________________________________________________
Please find enclosed a copy of a letter sent to SRJ Debt Recoveries, who Tiscali (Talk Talk) has a vendor relationship with. The attached letter constitutes a formal complaint against SRJ Debt Recoveries detailing my reasons for bringing into question their compliance with the Office of Fair Trading guidelines.
I would assume that you are keen to monitor the services provided by your vendors. I would expect that you are also keen to ensure that those working in association with the Talk Talk and Tiscali brands conduct their business in a manner congruent with the reputation you wish to have in the public eye.
With this assumption in mind, I encourage your vendor management team to work closely with SRJ Debt Recoveries, following the resolution of the attached complaint and where necessary reviewing the recordings of calls that have taken place between myself and SRJ Debt Recoveries.
Whilst I await for the response from SRJ Debt Recoveries, I should also like to point out that I intend to raise a formal complaint with Tiscali and Talk Talk. Therefore, in response to this letter, I expect you to provide me with the contact details and address for whom I should send this forthcoming formal complaint correspondence to.
I also request that you advise me of the address, associated fees and methods of payment you require to apply to your Data Controller to access data to which I am entitled to as a data subject under the Data Protection Act
I look forward to your prompt response.___________________________________

There are certain aspects of this that sound "unfair" by SRJ Debt Recovery.
I am aware that Surrey Trading Standards are "...carrying out research into the activities of debt collection companies based in their county....", an area which SRJ Debt Recovery operate in.
With this in mind, I encourage anyone being harrassed by SRJ Debt Recoveries to contact Consumer Direct 08454 04 05 06 and ask them to pass your concerns onto the Surrey Trading Standards who are at present looking at the issues here.
The more calls, the bigger the issue, the bigger the action.___________________________________
