S.R.J. Debt Recoveries

They're referring to AOL as 'our client' so they have not bought the debt but have been instructed by AOL (despite what you were told).
If SRJ were reasonable and respectable you should be able to send them a copy of your email and point out that 'their client' has written the debt off. And that should stop them.
However, as they are complete @rseh0les it may not...0 -
I would point out that the debt does not exist, and that it has been cleared with AOL already, as that is what AOL has said.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
Thanks fatbelly and DarkConvict!
I ended up speaking to AOL again. The gist of the conversation was: AOL will review my account by next Monday (which is when they asked me to contact them again) and will check whether there should be any money outstanding. They told me I should not deal with SRJ, but only communicate directly with AOL.
I also plan to send the following letter to SRJ to let them know what's up - please let me know if you think it should say something different. Thank you everyone.
RE: your letters dated 07/10/2009, 29/09/2009, 10/09/2009
I would like to inform you that I am in direct discussions with your client, AOL Broadband, and will pay whatever amount I may or may not owe (and this is still to be clarified) directly to them.
Please feel free to ascertain of this directly with your client. Meanwhile, I would request that you do not send me any further letters demanding payment and threatening with legal proceedings as I will not be dealing with you any further, as advised by AOL.0 -
sorry jumping in on the thread...had the same company chasing me for aol debt i never knew about...the gist is this...moved house over 2 years ago...send aol letter of termination, then cancelled direct debit (i know bad move) was contacted first by Roxburgh about paying debt (approx £130) replied to thm that it was in dispute blah blah and didnt hear anything else from them.
i then get a trace letter from SRJ, i contatced roxburgh straight away to be informed
dear xxxxx
This account was closed on the 06/11/09 as per our client AOL Broadband instructions if you are being chased by a different debt collections agency you will need to contact AOL Broadband direct.
i then get on the phone to SRJ, again stating that this is in dispute, they put account on hold while they contact AOL
had the Referral for litigation same as PLAMA about the 10th jan 2010, so i called them SRJ again, spoke to a guy called scott who as said account is back on hold for another 28days pending aol answering his questions...he stated that AOL were causing alot of problems as they keep chasing debt that doesnt really exsist, i told scott from srj that i had been with AOL for well over 5 years, as far as i was concerned i was not in a contract, he stated that aol automatically renew your 18 month contract....is this right? what do i do next??? wife is freeting a bit....ive read that much about this company SRJ...all not good. please help0 -
Lee - srj are nothing to be scared of. They are just bullies with some fancy standard letters.
However ... you must communicate in writing and hope they have not already logged your phone number. A couple of letters that might be useful are the 'communicate only in writing' and the 'prove-it' ones. Both are in this thread0 -
i will be back on when i get my next letter...thanks for listening to me waffle!!!

Hi
I also received a letter from SRJ yesterday.
Having left my new address to my old service providers for them to send me the closing bills for my accounts at my old residence three years ago, and having forwarded my mail for six months, I’m pretty sure I have no debt left behind.
I think SRJ are running a scam, getting people to call them on that 0845 number makes them 0.7p/minutes.
I will follow the advice in this thread and not respond to this letter as it has no details of who their client is, or for that matter what the amount of the debt is.
If they send me other letters in the future, I will come back for some more advice.
Thank you for the present help in this thread.
Good luck!
“SRJ Letter
Dear Mr XXXXX
We have failed to receive a response to previous correspondence and have therefore made tracing enquiries for confirmation of your current place of residence. Information has been received confirming that your address details have changed to this address.
Please contact us immediately on 08453137203 quoting the above reference number.
Yours sincerely,
SRJ”
Note the 0845 number! That’s not right….is it now.
Cheers Ukfrog.0 -
Just a little extra note.
For those who must call SRJ I have found alternative No. to the 0845 and 0870
For
0870 438 2013
0845 313 7200
use
0203 147 8600
And to Fax them
0870 428 2340
use
01483 71 48 45
That will be that less in their piggy-bank. LOL0 -
