just an update...spoke to AOL this morning...a kind chap in Inidia or somwhere nice said my AOL debt on his screen is £110.55 that is for 8 months that i didnt pay (i cancelled my contract by post, apparently you CANT do that) hence why the have called the debt agency in.
they have offered a deal...if i pay £85.55 everything will be sorted. they will call off the rotwillers (sorry if misspelt) SRJ and account will be cleared. i asked would i get any confirmation for this credit card payment over the phone (bit dodgey sometimes, even more so when dealing with different country) and was told i will get a reference number.
my question is this.
would you pay over the phone?
i have tried to haggle...they a waved £25 quid, do you think i should try for more?
anyone else dealt with this debt this way?0 -

Hi Leesimpkin
I would say that if the debt is due and they waved £25 off already, you could always try for a little more, but don't dream to much.
As for paying it by phone, in INDIA, with your Credit Card. I would advise you to ask them for their account number and send it through your Bank. It only takes 5 days, I'm sure AOL can wait the extra 5 days after having waited that long already.
There is always a chance the phones are bugged at the call centre they use, and you kindly have to give all details on the card + security code at the back. This has long been the source for scum to buy your details.
The BBC made a program about that subject on Panorama, very scary. The guys had hours of tape with 1000's of card numbers with all details spelt out for the potential "buyers" (in this case under cover Panorama journalist).
So always BEWARE of passing on Credit Card Details over the phone.
Again ask them for the account details to send the money through your bank.
And take the discount! LOL
Good luck0 -
will AOL let me pay via direct bank transfer? anyone done this?0

No reason why not, after paying them, ask them to call the dogs off.
Also ask AOL to send you a receipt for the payment, and send a copy to SRJ once you have it. But make sure AOL contacts SRJ to let them know they no longer need to pursue this matter.
Anybody tell me if I'm wrong!?0 -
How strange, i received the same letter you did from the same debt company months ago - i rang them and they were so rude, that i complained not that anything was done about it. I got another letter saying i owed aol £193 from 3 yrs ago (i closed the account properly with aol), so i rang aol who told me i owed nothing.... they gave me a reference no to give to srj and i emailed them and phoned them... one guy was so rude/shouting at me/told me id be going to court etc...obv loved bullying ppl...... i told him exactly what i thought of him and his company and told him the ref no and the man i spoke to from aol..... the debt has now been written off by srj.... aol were fantastic, shame about srj.. good luk0

SRJ= clowns, AOL = waste of time
now paid...paid AOL directly, got sick of SRJ calling my home...arrasment...aol wont send me any confirmation, just gave me AOL Transaction number and AOL Cancellation number...then said they would be in touch with debt agency SRJ within 14 days....so i called SRJ myself...told them that i had paid AOl then SRJ say my account is on temp. hold til 6th feb...(was already on hold anyway!) SRJ want proof by seeing bank statement!! i have asked not to be phoned again...bet they do!!! honestly hope they go to the wall...both of them!!

Good News.
Let us know if they send any more letters.0 -
SRJ dont need to or have any right to see your bank statement. Just let AOL confirm with them / or forward copies of your AOL cancellation confirmation letters to them.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0
