Unwanted Book from Book Club

I don't know if this is the right place to post but need to know
Does anyone know how to deal with a book club that I didn't knowingly join and they want 99p for a book I didn't order?
They have an 0870 number with a stupid bint and no real person.
I have emailed them on their site and hope I get a response
If anyone else has had this happen to them, how did they deal with it

If they claim you (or someone) joined online then email communication should be good enough. Keep copies.
Legally if you get unsolicited goods the goods belong to you and you don't have to send them back or make them available for the company to pick up.
BUT it has not yet been confirmed on these forums yet if the company claims to be a victim of fraud (someone else put your details in) whether or not the goods are then returnable to the company.
So for this book you probably don't want it if they ask for it back just ask them to send you a reply paid slip DON"T AGREE to post it back at your expense you are under no obligation to do so. If they send you one you might aswell send it back.
You shouldn't have any trouble once you have started to communicate with them.
Name the company if you like. come back if you get any more trouble.0 -
My OH has just rec'd one too!
It is from The Mystery and Thriller Club, Hargreaves Road, Swindon SN99 9XX
No way did OH order this - am not sure if he knows which way up a book is read! :rotfl:
Seriously, the name on parcel is not correctly spelt and no way did anyone order this book 5th Horseman!
I know it is not DDs as they are only interested in Fairies and Bratz! :rotfl:
Don't want to keep it as are decluttering big style and don't want to join BCA book clubs (I think that is who these people are!)
What I want to know is why are they doing this? And how do I get rid of it short of binning? No way am I phoning an 0870 line to tell them to collect!
Can anyone help?0 -
Try looking for a website and contact them via the website....email. If I was you I would start off initially with the line
I did not request this book, it is unsolicited, therefore under the Unsolicited Goods and Services Act 1971, (as amended) I'm sure you will agree with me that the goods are now mine and you are not entitled to ask me for payment. Any such request for payment or subsequent requestts for payment will be considered as harrasment and reported to trading standards.
It's worth doing that initially if only to see what they saybut see my reply above re: fraud - situation unclear

I am not in the slightest bit interested in the genre of book.
I have had to join the website to send a message.
I did get an email the other week but deleted it as junk

I would simply re-seal the package, cross my address out and write UNSOLICITED MAIL across it and dump it in the nearest postbox. In the United Kingdom 200,000 people are bitten by dogs every year and some people will die as a result. Of those bitten, 70% are children... So the question has to be asked....... Has the time come to ban children?0

Good idea:D
I have registered with their site and emailed them saying 'B*gger off'
They know my email address and found my details from somewhere - surely they will claim I received it.
I am not well today and don't need this level of hassle from these shisters:mad:An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

You could just ignore it, you're under no obligation to return the book, and they havn't got a leg to stand on if they try to persue you for the money. If they try to harrass you contact trading standards.0

I got a reply to the emails, they have cancelled the account and sending a free label to return it. I am yet to receive it. It looks like I got signed up without my consent.
Many thanks to all the help you have given me.An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:
