HEY ALL - TURNING TO YOU ALL FOR ADVISE HERE!!
I've a Barclays Debit card thingy which I've managed to run up a hefty bill on ! (600 quid! when i only have a 250 limit!) and am rather intelligently (now im being intelligent??!), going to sort it out. Now, I have the money in other accounts to pay it off, but for reasons I dont want to go into, I want to pay it off a bit at a time. The two best options I can think of so far are: 1) get a small loan, pay off the 600 quid and pay back the loan monthly. The only trouble with this is, loans as low as 600quid are very interest heavy! 2) Would be to get a credit card, transfer the 600 debt to that, and pay it off that way. Im not sure if this one is possibly, but it seems a good idea. (I know people at this point are thinking, if I can run up 600 quid on a debit card what would I be like with a credit card! - but dont fear, their were circumstances behind the 600 pounds!)
ADVISE ANYONE PLEAAASSEE!!!!!!
Thank you very much

I've just started entering the competitions (July 07). When I win I'll update this signature. Look on the bright side, I shouldn't have to update it very often.

What about the option of arranging a bank overdraft even a temporary one ?
This is likely to cost you less in the long run compared to a loan.0 -
Good shout - but .... umm do you think they'd give me a 600 quid overdraft given how far i went over the 250 one? The girl i talked to at barclays about the loan option wasnt overly helpful!I've just started entering the competitions (July 07). When I win I'll update this signature. You could try to get an Egg credit card. If you get it you can balance transfer the debt to it at a rate of 0% until 1st Sept 2005. You will need to at least pay the minimum payments each month, of course.
However you do need to be careful doing this sort of thing. If you are not the type of person who is organised about their finances you can get yourself into more trouble.
Start by reading Martin's SBT article here.0 -
If there were "circumstances" behind the spend Barclays will help you. If you peed the money away they might not be so lenient.
Bottom line- they want their money back and so are pretty much forced to help you.
CAB will help too.
JaimeErr, I'll get back to you about the funny signature0 -
What you need to do is speak to Collections department of bank. The branch should be able to get you their number, or you might be getting a letter/call from them soon!!
They will listen to your situation, then try to help you out, but unless you have a very good reason /are very convicing you have learned the error of your ways you may lose the card on your account (Which is understandable, the way you have abused it!)0
