School has binned my daughters belongings

Believe me it would not have been done lightly and they would probably have gone to a charity shop or in a clothes recycling bin.0 -
It seems entirely reasonable to me that if kit is left, clearly labelled, on a peg, then it's not the same as a random cardigan found on the grass or stuffed behind a radiator and should be either left where it was, or shoved somewhere with a note on the kid's file or the teacher's pigeon hole ready for day 1 of the next term.
That is just common respect in my book.0 -

When the lost property box was checked there was only a single item in there so it's not like they had no room to keep hold of it for her.
Like I said in my first post, I wouldn't mind so much had it just been her lunchbox but I cant afford to replace trainers.
Would the trainers still fit her now?I just wondered if they were in the lost property box would they be any use to you now?

Very unlikely that the school was closed - the caretaker is usually around for at least some of the time and even in the small school i work in - the school was open every single day, either with workman, staff, caretaker and at least one day a week with me and the office manager.
our school doesnt have a caretaker, and none of the teachers come in until maybe a day before they are due back - it is also made clear that school is not open, even if people are on site
i dont see how a few named items left behind by one person at the end of term, could be classed as being in someones way, and therefore need to be thrown out. ok, unamed items that sit in lost property for weeks on end, but something that is named should be returned
I think any sensible teacher, would check all pegs/drawers at the end of term to make sure the children have all their items, before they leave the classroom - one PE bag left on a peg, would stand out like a sore thumb. Its more poor organising by the teacher, if they dont have all children standing at their desk/the door, with all their bags in hand, making sure
but again, if its named, and you know the child is returning the following term, then it can easily be held onto by the school, or someone gives the parents a quick call over the holidays (seeing as you think all staff are IN school), so they can return to retrieve the item

Thanks Flea, see this is how I look at the situation too. Would it have hurt them to hang onto it for her ?0

Hmm well I don't think they binned it, I think it is most likely an excuse and in fact it has gone missing or been stolen by someone but they don't want to admit it.
We had a problem like this when my sister had an item of jewellery confiscated at secondary school and it was never returned to her. They made all sorts of excuses until the head got involved and paid for a replacement.0 -
I agree with flea - this is disregard for other peoples property and I would expect to be reimbursed. had three children at school and school would not have done what yours did! lost property was usually produced at end of term or open days or pta meetings and parents invited to look for missing items if its clearly marked with your daughters name it wouldnt have hurt them to hang on to it and return it to her would it?0

Teachers CBA with the education of our kids so I guess it's a bit much to ask for them to look out for a few personal belongings.0

Well quite. The school does hold these open days for everyone to sift thru' the lost property but obviously due to this happening on the last day of term that would of been difficult lol.
In my opinion I'm well within my rights to ask for some compensation ..at least a pair of pumps for PE. :rolleyes:0
