We need the internet

Options
Hello!

I'm moving in to a rented house next month, the woman who lives there now has no home phone and no internet but we need it.

I am so confused at how to get internet...my brother sorts it out here.

Can someone please tell me what i need to get connected to the net, and please assume your speaking to someone who knows very very little!

p.s - I DO know that there is no cable in that area.

Find out if there is a land line (phone line) connected to the property.
Get on to BT to get a quote for reconnection. Its usually £125 but if the line is already there you might get it cheaper.
Sign up for their cheapest phone (not internet) package.
Go to the Samknows website and put in your exchange details, see if there are any LLU service providers as these would offer the cheapest deals.
Otherwise I guess you could go for mobile internet.

  • You can get a mobile broadband dongle: it fits into a PC (desktop or laptop) and uses the mobile phone network. You can pay as you go or get a prepaid one just to try it out.

They can be slow, it depends on what the reception is like in that area.

Im in exactly this position, Ive phoned BT today and the connection is free until the end of September saving £125, the information on this is in Martins email last week.
just looking at internet now,a bit confused on this because of the variety of packages.
  • OK great thankyou!

We're moving in the middle of Oct so the free connection might have finished then. Can't believe they charge £125 for connecting. I think there is a phone line because someone will have had a home phone at some point. So if thats the case i would just pay the 'connection' fee?

would it be possible to apply for the free connection and then book the work for when you move in? I applied 2 days ago and booked the connection for 26th September. Its worth trying anyway.
you have to have an18 month contract by the way.
    regards nooney
