Primer Paint for Exterior Timber Wood : Which one is best

Hi All; Only just found this site and found it very usefull already, particularly Leveller's tip on Acrylic primer.
I am in pretty much the same situation as JM_2. I have a wooden conservatory that I'm sure was never properly primed and undercoated when it was built. In places the paint peels off to bare wood, mainly on the south facing side. I have used Acrylic primer but thanks to Leveller's posts I will no longer use it.
Also, the conservatory was (and still is) painted in Farrow and Ball exterior eggshell. Farrow and Ball are supposed to be good paints but I'm not convinced they are worth the high price they carry, especially the eggshell, which I'm not convinced is any good for outside.
I would very much welcome any views on this.
Thanks,
Eric0
