Argos returns without a box

Hello all!

Purchased a VAX from Argos a couple of weeks ago and it's absolutely awful, leaves the carpets sodden, doesn't suck up any water unless considerable pressure it pushed on the head of the vacuum that surely can't be right, I was going to return it to find out my endearing other half has destroyed the box.

I would definitely suggest this item is faulty, and would accept a replacement, but without a box where would I stand? I know vax insists that the item be returned to them and not the retailer, but i'd rather get a replacement and sell privately than have this one repaired. (So I can purchase the Vax all terrain v-125 from their website at half price, which, after using my parents, is absolutely brilliant)

argos states that if there's a fault with the product...

We've made it easier!

If you bring it back to us within 30 days with your proof of purchase*, we'll give you a
replacement or a refund.
If you've had the product for up to 1 year, we'll repair the product or, if that's not possible, give you a replacement or, if that's not possible, a refund.
Please note that all large kitchen appliances are excluded from our 30 day guarantee, but if your item develops a fault within 30 days, call us on 0845 640 0800 and one of our agents will assist you with your problem. If faulty and if it cannot be repaired we will arrange a replacement free of charge or you can opt for a refund.
This does not affect your statutory rights.
* If you had your item delivered, your order number which can be found on your order acknowledgement or delivery packaging counts as your receipt/proof of purchase.

it says that as long as you have the receipt you can get a replacement or refund, it doesn't mention the box...

anyone had a similar experience, or any pointers?

many thanks

You won't need it for faulty goods. If they really want it, get it replaced and let them use the box from the new one.
    Squirrel!

Shouldn't matter about not having the box if it's faulty, as long as you take EVERYTHING you got with the vacuum including accessories and instructions the store should replace it for you if it's faulty.

Hmmm, sorry OP but are you sure it is actualy faulty? or have you just decided that you like another model better and are trying to return it as faulty in order to get the other one at a cheaper price?

(they will probably want to get it tested to make sure there is a fault)

    :naughty:
  • Have you got the reciept? If not, if you paid by card you can take a bank statement in and they will check the date on their system and see if a vax was sold around the same time as it says on the statement.

They rarely check anything in there. If it's over £65 they get a manager to authorise the refund sometimes, but I've never had a problem taking anything back in there. Say it's faulty and not doing as it states in the catalogue
  • Hi - I just bought a Dyson CD27 vacuum but found it too big for the house when we took it out of the box and wanted to exchange it for a Miele. Of course now Argos wont refund because the packaging is damaged. I dont see how you can review a product without opening the box, and therefore invalidate the 30 day refund offer. Their promise seems a bit worthless! The Dyson is now on Ebay if anyone is interested....

If you go to Currys, all the Dysons are normally on display, so easy to see how big they are.

How can a vacuum be too big for a house??

You need to do your research BEFORE buying.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I dont think your reply is very helpful or relevant to this thread. The issue is that I couldnt get a refund not why I bought the item.

How can a vacuum be to big for a house?? Seems a daft thing to say if you consider the size of a DC27 in a small terrace house you can easily understand how a vacuum can be too big.

Remember chaps, always take the girlfriend/wife with you when buying items for the home....:o

Obviously people thanked my post by mistake then...

It was relevant because a vacuum being too big is not a valid reason for returning an item, and the size of a vacuum is easy to research.

If the vacuum was faulty, then there would have been no problem returning it, but you can't return something just because you didn't do your homework first.

I don't have much space, so did a fair bit of research before buying mine. I also read comments that they are a bit heavy, so found a shop (Currys) with some out on display and had great fun running round the shop with it. They even said I could plug it in to test it :D (nah, I'm not doing their cleaning for them!).
