I'll second the wok recommendation!
I use (a non stick one) for Stir Fry, Curries, Spag Bol, Chillis, Sardines with Cous Cous, Fajitas...0 -
After the non stick started peeling off my pans i decided not to bother with them any more and buy some stainless steel ones instead.
I wasn`t really sure whether or not i would get on with them so i went to wilkinsons and got a set of 3 stainless steel ones with the glass vented lids and they are fab, glad i bought them. They were less than £20 for three and i`ve had them 2 years now. I was going to buy a nice looking expensive set but these are great - go in the dishwasher too.

We have a great set of basic pans from when we got married, but I find the one I use the most I bought a couple of years ago from Mr. A for £10. It is a large two handle pan with glass lid which is great for cooking chilli, boiling potatoes and perfect size for pasta. I even use it to make my jam in. They still sell them - same price.0

I bought a set of heavy bottomed stainless steel pans about 15 years ago and they still look like new, apart from the little one as the handle fell off! I still use it though just very carefully!!
I would recommend buying the best you can afford with a heavy base and personally I would forget about non stick except for a frying pan.

Hi,
I need some new pans and want to utilise the January sales to get them. I’ve just had a look out today and found some half price sets at Debenhams, but I’ve realised that I have no idea what makes a good pan.
What should I look for, and what should I try to avoid?
There’s a set of these pans with Raymond Blanc’s name attached to them for half price, and if he’s happy to be associated with them they must be OK, yes?
There’s also a set for half the price which appear to be similar.
Can someone give me some advice please?? I'm thinking of going with the RB ones as they're £90 for 4 and they're going to last me for at least 20 years - better safe than sorry perhaps?
Thanks!0 -
have you looked on the viners website www.viners.co.uk they have a set for £84.00 25yr Guarantee, and there is a 20% off code on hotdeals bringing them down to £67.20 and they have free express del.Might be worth a look.0

We bought a set of Stellar pans 15 years ago and they are still like new. They are stainless steel, cost about £100, so not cheap and we were told that they would build up their own non-stick and they have. We were going to get a non-stick coated set for half the price but i'm glad we chose this set, looking at it, they will probably last another 15 years at least!!!

I was looking at Kitchen Confidential (by that chef, Bourdain, can't remember his first name) today. He says that the key question is weight - the heavier the better. Not much good if you have arthritic wrists, like my mum, but that's the theory in choosing pans.
