Have you looked at Eurostar from London? They had some great deals recently. £99 return. It's about a 6 or 7 hour journey but takes you into the centre of town, you can take as much luggage as you like, there is wifi on the German trains. To get to Stansted from London centre takes 45 mins, you have to be there an hour early, the train is always delayed and then it's a further hour from Munich airport into town.

Some friends and I once got travel to the 'fest by flying to Frankfurt am Main and then taking the ICE train down.

The trains in Germany are just so good that you can travel easily from city to city in no time and there is a UK website www.bahn.co.uk

I've tried looking at the Eurostar website but it doesn't seem to load correctly on my browser.

Where in Germany does it take you? Does it go right into Munich?

If anyone is able to tell me the cost on Eurostar that'd be great. I'm working till 5pm on 18 Sep next to Gloccester Road station, London so could depart after that. I need to reach Munich by 7am 19 Sep.

Coming back I'd need to be back in London on 21st Sep (evening - anytime really - cheapest fare the better).

    Thanks so much again

The train will not get you there in time. Also, like airlines, you can only get reasonable prices if you book in advance, not a few days before.

For train options, Google the superb site run by The Man in Seat 61. From memory, your best bet would be to book a Eurostar to Brussels, and buy separate tickets for the onward train journey to Munich. Someone has already posted the English-language website for Die Bahn, the German railway company. You can also telephone them: the staff in their London office are very helpful and well-informed, and can offer cut-price deals on Eurostar as well. Sadly, the number begins 0870 but the quality of service justifies the cost.

Anyway, there are overnight sleeper trains between Cologne and Munich run by City Night Line. They would probably do the trick, whether you flew into Cologne or arrived there by Eurostar and local train.
  • Strongly suggest you look at Ryanair to Salzburg (Austria) - just over an hour/€20 from Munich.
