What happens to contracts upon death?
Can anyone tell me what happens with mobile phone and broadband internet contracts upon the subscribers death?
Not a cheery question I know, but for me relevant. I was particularly thinking of the current Talk Talk 'Free' broadband offer, but this has an 18 month contract.
Thank you.

Contractually I would think that the contract dies with the person.

As Hugo said I would have thought. I know this is the case with Orange (they will want a faxed copy of the death certificate though) but once all confirmed they will write off any outstanding charges and cancel the contract.0

Having dealt with winding up an estate of a relative, I know this tends to be the practice with a number of organisations. Why Mobile phone providers would be any different, I don't know.
I would have thought they would want costs incurred by the deceased up until they passed away though, so if they made loads of calls then this would surely be payable. I suspect however that they would write off any costs incurred after the date of death.

I work in cancellations team of a large network provider (broadband internet, etc) and I can confirm that upon receipt of the death certificate the contract is terminated immediately and all charges credited from the date of death. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
