O2 iphone insurance rejected.

hERES A EMAIL PASTED I SENT TO MARSH INSURANCE - ADVICE PLEASe ON HOW TO HANDLE THIS:)

Dear Marsh Insurance,

I am extremely unhappy the way I have been treated by your company in particular the insurance claim rejection.

I have iphone premier insurance via o2 and I am on the most expensive iphone contract.

About a month ago, I moved to London and had issues with the iphone battery life, I rang o2 who explained when you are out for long periods, use a cheaper phone as they usually have better battery life then a smart phone. The advisor also explained when you do use your iphone, insert the sim back in it for the insurance cover to be valid.

On the 6th of September at approximately 10pm, my iphone fell in the toilet, causing water damage. The o2 sim card was in the phone at this time but it did not register due to the fact I do not receive any signal in my area. Where I have moved into London I do not receive any o2 signal, and when I go out, I use a old Samsung phone due to the poor battery life of the iphone( as advised by o2).

O2 also confirmed the reason the iphone did not register as being used is due to the lack of reception in my basement.

The T&C do state that the o2 sim must be in the iphone at the time of the incident which was the case.

So there is no reason for refusal.

Comments

  • Why do you take you iPhone to the toilet? I thought those stories of people Twittering "I'm on the bog" were a joke.
  • pure conjecture - does this mean if o2 do not recieve a signal from a phone the insurance is void.

Therefore if the phone is not turned on the insurance is not valid

    Madness

Most of these insurances provided through mobile networks are expensive and unreliable. I wish you good luck with this claim but recommend in the future you add your mobile to your home insurance. Mine costs around £20 a year and offers an old for new replacement against damage, loss and theft.

The only downside is that if the device was to become faulty I would have to contact the manufacturer and it wouldn't be on a 24 hour swap. I'm happy to take the risk for the savings.

Can you post the rejection reason/letter from the insurance company?

Send Marsh a letter asking them to reconsider. Ask for a deadlock letter if they refuse. Then refer the claim to the Financial Ombudsman:
