I've got a smalish (2/3 portion) cast iron casserole dish that my mother gave me when I moved out of home. It was one of my grandmother's wedding presents - so that makes it 60+ years old. It's an english version of Le Creuset (or maybe they're a French version of this....) and it's still going strong. My mum's still got the larger 5/6 portion version of the same age - I fully expect to finally inherit that one day!

I also have my grandmother's pressure cooker (same age, but with slightly less vintage under its belt as she never used it - she was terrified of it....). It could do with a new seal now, but it still works just fine.

Great to hear how much people have collected, I don't feel quite so bad now.:D

Went to see the preview of the cookery film Julie and Julia tonight, that featured some Le Creuset that I kept nudging my daughter about when it came on, she wasn't impressed.:rotfl:

Rocketchimp9 yes I actually saw some cast iron Le Creuset in my local TK Maxx the other day, they usually only have the stoneware in.

They had a 16cm casserole and some small frying pans....I resisted!;)

  • I've never been in TK Maxx. Worcester has just acquired one where Woolies used to be. Looks like I might have to have look in there:)

Has anyone bought the Le Cruset wok?

I don't really use my (present) work for flash frying, but for do chilli's, Curry's, bolognas, etc.

I need to get a new one & I'm toying between a Le Cruset & a Circulon, but I'm 99% sure I need to go with a Le Cruset.

Anyone know where to get the best price for the 36cm?

    Yes and it's brilliant.
I leave it as a permanent fixture(as I have a wok ring) on my hob and use it for lots of things.
Beats any other I've ever had.
I find all the Le Creuset stuff just fantastic.

    Thank you.

I'm fed up changing Tefal ones & Le Cruset casseroles are brilliant.

I wouldn't buy a set of the pans, as they are very heavy to lift & I would guess take a long time to boil.

Is it worth buying one saucepan? Is there anything that a cast iron one does better than a steel.

Has anyone tried TK Maxx for Le Creuset, Im in Leicester and I bought my sister some soup bowls. They had lots of other things there aswell like casserole dishes think it was just the orange and cream colour though.

Was that the city centre one? I was at Thurmaston on Monday and they had very little. hate going into the city centre but I would to get a new casserole :o.

  • Yea the city centre one has a large homeware department on the top floor, not positive it is cast iron though maybe stoneware Le Creuset, dont want you to make a special journey if its not definitely what you want. Im not that keen on going into the centre either
