I still refer back to Delia, although I have to say I find the stuff in Nigella's books easy to cook and they always turn out well. Struggle with Jamie mind you - he just doesn't do it for me.
I have a tatty old notebook which was started by my Grandmother, then onto my mother and now I have it - full of fantastic tips and recipes.0 -
I was given a copy of the Good Housekeeping cookbook when I got married (33 years ago) and I still use it!!! its lost its cover (chip pan overspill many moons ago) sections have come apart, pages mended with sellotape - but If I need a basic recipe - it has it! also good right now for retro recipes. other cookbooks have come and gone (out of fashion mainly) but I cherish this one! the only other one i use regularly is Favourite Welsh Recipes - cant remember author and son borrowed it. will post it on later as it has some brill recipes including the one I make my faggots from!0

I love the bero book! We had this one when I was a kid and I was convinced that the granny on the front was my nana - she did look very much like her!

I have the new edition and it still has all the old recipes in plus some extra, even the photos are the same. Always my first port of call when I'm baking.
I have Rachel Allen's Food For Living and haven't had a problem yet with any of her recipes, it's mainly no-nonsense food rather than fussy dinner party fodder which is good. Includes recipes for everything from lasagne and chicken kiev to chocolate amaretti cake (that is particularly nice!) I also like the Korean beef with avacado rice recipe, I've made it for a few people and they are always impressed by it.0 -
I only have a few as tend to find most of my recipes online/in magazines.
My dad bought me my first cookbook when I was 15 (The Junior Cook) and I still have it now despite not being a junior anymoreIt's actually got some really good recipes in and a lot I still haven't tried.
I bought Gordon Ramsay's 'Fast Food' when I left home, but have never used it as the recipes seem a bit full on (a lot of ingredients i'd never use again). Maybe i'll try one one day. I then bought a slow cooker recipe book which i've used a couple of times.
Then my dad bought me a student cookbook (i'm not a student) when I moved again but that also has really good recipes.
I should get into the habit of going through them and picking out what I like and trying one a week or something, just to try something new.
Delia seems popular on here, maybe i'll try one of her books (or not as probably won't use it)

Best current one? Jamie Olilver's Ministry of Food. I bought it for DS at Christmas and we've used it a lot.
Most used over the years? Delia's three-part "Cookery Course" (I'm into my second copy!!) , the Bero Book and Madhur Jaffrey's "Indian Cooking", her first one from the mid-eighties. I've got a shelf full of other books but if I only got to keep three, these would be them.Val.0 -
My children will not let me go into book shops when i am out with them because i will always come out with a cook book. People say to me do you use them and i must admit that we do seem to revert to our old favorites,Delia, Ken hom, Jamie Oliver,Madra Jafrey(sorry if my spelling is incorrect). The latest ones i like are Economy Gastronomy, Ministry of food, we had a count up the other day and we have about 3 hundred cook books, i would like to down size but hubby is a hoarder and will not get rid of any thing.
I also buy all the cookery mags, and keep a file with all my favorite ones in. Is it a wonder i have a weight problem

I'll bet it is one of the gift shops in town. I know I tend to buy them when we go on holiday, I have the Yorkshire, Devon, Cumbria and Somerset versions.
My cooking tends to revolve around traditional Welsh food anyway! Things like Cawl, Welsh Cakes and Bara Brith are staples in this house.0
