Hi there!
I have a wonderful collection of cookery books (that I spend far far too much time reading ), when people ask me what I want for birthdays / xmas I am more than happy to get more to add to my collection.
I am not at all picky as I love anything foody but if people ask me for a specific title I never know what I want.
I thought it would be interesting to ask what everyones favourite/most used cookery book is and why...so then I can create my own wishlist ...
*reminder to self must stay away from ebay once I start reading peoples responses....:rotfl::rotfl:
Thanks!

    Hi Kamperkat,

My all time favourite (used most) is Delia Smith's Complete Cookery Course, and my most recent favourite is the new Economy Gastronomy book.

You'll find lots more opinions on these threads:

    Favourite recipe books

    recipe book recommendations please

And it's well worth a browse through The Complete Old Style Book Collection for more inspiration.

I'll add your thread to the first link later to keep the recommendations together.

I have a soft spot for Delia's How to Cook series, mainly because I was given them when I left home and so they taught me to cook...

I also love a bit of Nigella/Rachel Allen, but more for browsing through and thinking about how my life could be than actually cooking much out of them!

I cook quite a lot from Jamie's Dinners, and am working my way through some of the Economy Gastronomy recipes.

I would love a copy of the Bero cookbook, my mum has one which she had free from a relative who worked for them, it is old and tatty now but has all the goodies of my childhood in (yum!)

Current fave for practicality is The Good Housekeeping Cook's Collection.

OK I confess, I am a cookbook addict...

I have had a total clear out of my cookbooks, they're all going to the car boot sale. Find myself looking at the pictures, totally adapting a recipe and never using them, so I just kept the one that I inherited - Delia complete cookery course, she looks about 19 on the cover!

I know, but that's the modern one and it has a chapter on microwave baking! I want the proper authentic old one that my mum had, she had this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Be-Ro-Home-Recipes-Scones-Puddings/dp/B00133LZ66 I always wanted to be the girl on the front, I want my daughter to want to be her too...

My Mum bought me "Meat and two veg", which I really like and recently lent to my brother's girlfriend who has copied out most of the recipes!

  • I'm constantly refering back to my Bero books, I have two, one which belonged to my gran and one which was my mother's. They're splattered with egg and flour and falling to bits but I love them :)
  • I love the 101 series from Good food - one recipe on each page with a nice big picture

I cannot abide recipe books with no pictures

My own, started 33 years ago, has all the basic basics (how to’s), my own recipes, plus favourite dishes.
It has got tatty and dog-eared over the years so I have started a new one transferring some of the more used recipes, but daughter has claimed the old one.

My fave is Nigella's Domestic Goddess - the stuff looks amazing.
For anything else non sweet thing related I don't actually have a favourite. I like lots of different receipes from lots of different books.
