  • Does anyone experience worsening of bi-polar symptoms around the time of their menstrual period?

My mood swings definatly worsen around this time & am wondering if anyone else is affected this way.
There was a long thread about it last year on the MDF site, so I don't think that you're alone.
  • Thanks Sue, I'll try and search for the thread.
  • I've just done a search but can't find it. Why not start a thread? To judge by the responses last time someone did, I think you'll get quite a few, although maybe not until the holiday is over. I don't want to start one myself as I prefer to lurk on there rather than post.

The subject of depression (not biploar; depression in general) and periods has been mentioned a few times in the depression support thread in health.

  • Dont know if its been mentioned before and hope its OK with the mods for me to post this, but another useful site with forum and chat room is https://www.bipolar4all.co.uk
I don't know if I'm getting better or just used to the pain.

    hi guys,
Hope it's ok to post here as I don't actually have bipolar myself but my partner who I am living with does and I sometimes find it exhausting and hugely stressful to deal with and guilty at feeling these things. He also has memory problems which tends to affect his mood, ie he forgets and gets confused and frustrated and then struggles to control himself. I guess I just thought it would help me to have a bit of support for when I am struggling as well if you will have me.

not having a good start to today, just always end up feeling that i can't do right for doing wrong. If i assume he can do something then he screams at me, if i try and help then i think he's stupid and get the nasty sarky comments. I just want to help him but no matter what i try i'm wrong :( i'm in tears everyday just now, he is usually his 'normal' self before too long but just doesn't realise how much it hurts to see someone you love struggle so much

So apparently i have bipolar not BPD as i was first told. At least i think that's what the doctor meant when he said i presented as bipolar. I could be wrong. I'm so confused and kicking myself for not pressing the matter with the doctor. He looked through my notes before he said it. Anyone else been in this situation of not knowing exactly what your diagnosis is? :(

Don't get too hung up on a definative diagnosis one way or the other. My wife was like that and to cut a long story short, not having a definitive diagnosis really messed her up (or rather, worrying about it did). She has now (eventually!) come to accept that she has 'elements of both BiPolar and BPD' and is much calmer and less prone to worry as a result.
