Better than preinstalled with IE. But seems Google would be trying to commit the same crimes as Microsoft but for free.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740

Ultimately an OEM is free to preinstall whatever software they wish, but I'd expect Sony in this case to make it clear to their customers that Google Chrome includes both optional and non-optional usage tracking, and gives them enough information to make in informed choice as whether to permit the optional tracking or not.0

The only problem I can see is google will eventually cram it full of adds like gmail0

I think it's rubbish, people dont want their computers full of crap when they buy them, they just want the OS and drivers.0

I don't really see this in the same light as the extra junk that is added by some manufacturers, for a start it doesn't run at start-up like a lot of the pre-installed software so won't really make much difference if you don't use it unlike the 'wifi managers, power managers and who-knows-what else I had on my laptop when I got it.
I'm sure I remember it being over the internet a while back that Sony was particularly bad for adding on software and even had on it's website when you were configuring a new laptop to buy a (£50) option to have the laptop come without all the junk installed! The cheek of it.

But you need a browser to download a new browser, unless you have one on a disc or flash drive somewhere. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Whats wrong with putting IE, Firefox, Safari, Chrome, Opera install files on the hard drive and letting the user choose what one they want to install?0 -

That's because the companies that make all the crap trialware pay OEMs to install it on their computers. It's just another reason why many computers are so cheap.0 -
well thats bloating it out and so on. Also not everyone is computer Zavvi as you so might get confused with 4 browsers installed.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740

I guess that most people don't realise that when an OEM preloads machine with software that it subsidises part of the cost of the laptop. The OEM will load up a machine with whoever was willing to stump up the most money to have their product on it, not just out of the kindness of their hearts!0
