Egg don't want my money

  • @ hanwellmike - did you see that first entry in the Egg list that seems to offer you some degree of customisation?[/QUOTE]

Thank you for your suggestion. My problem may stem from having applied for an Egg account last year and not having gone thru with it. When I start to enter my application details, the system ''recognises'' me as an existing customer which I am not - I am simply someone who has applied before. I can still complete the application but the process ends up advising that they will contact me for more information. But they don't write to me and they are unable to remedy this problem on the phone (they just advise to apply again).

By the way I do live in a flat and I am beginning to think that that is significant. I have opened several new accounts in the last year and was hardly ever accepted ''first time'' without the need for further ID checks - despite having lived at the same address for 22 years.

This has been mentioned in the forum a few times before. In my experience of opening accounts with lots of banks/BS I only had the problem with Egg. They seem to have no humans only computers which can't understand that Flat D = Flat 4 etc. And indeed there are all sorts of versions of the postal address file.

In the end I managed by changing my address online to the version on my utility bill but that was after 3-4 weeks of having stuff sent back.

EGG DO NOT WANT YOU if you live in a flat.

Thanks Lansdowne - I am a flat owner and it nice to know that it's not just me...

Worth trying applying with a slightly 'different' name ? e.g. Michael instead of Mike or vice versa. Can you give just the house address and omit a flat number? Clutching at straws here, but try clearing your cookies before applying.

I was speaking to someone the other day who is in the same position as you.

They had a non internet savings account with Egg four years ago and closed it. When they applied for this new account they were asked to provide identification even though their address and all other circumstances were the same as before.

One of the bills provided to Egg did not match exactly the address on their records so Egg rejected it.

When they then submitted two correct bills Egg rejected one because it was dated four months ago!

Its quite hard to supply the idenification required these days because most bills are online which Egg will not accept.

Anyway they now say they got a better rate elsewhere!
