my vet wont do my girl kitten as she is too young thank you very much and he has been on the waiting list to get done.

and once again people assuming things like that i let them out at the moment due to this.

and again i never said i was going to abandon them surely the fact i got her from the RSPCA shows that??

God i though tthis was meant to be a forum to help people just seems to be ganging up to be honest. i will never be asking for advice in this part of the forum again due to being victimised so i hope you are happy with yourselves.

thank to every one with usefull advise.
but to the person about my post where in my post did i say once that if she was pregnant and had kittens that i would abandon them???? i NEVER said that once and nor would i ever do that. i will look after her and the kittens to the best of my ability. so dont you dare make that judgement on me! i was mearly asking due to the fact that she is young and i had read that it can harm them if she is pregnant so young. i work during the day i cant exactly lock either of them in a room for 10 hours until i get back now can i ??

to everyone that actually made a helpfull comment she saw the vet last night and she is not pregnant she is just filling out and he is booked in to get him done next week. thank you for the helpfull comments.

I can't see where anyone has suggested that you would abandon any kittens, but finding good homes for ten kittens, with people who will neuter then and look after them well for the next 15-20 years is a massively difficult job, and despite your best efforts, it is impossible to say that none of them will end up in rescue at some point in their lives...

Are they indoor or outdoor cats? They should not be going outdoors at all till they are speyed/neutered.. will the vet do the girl soon, as she is filling out?

Change your vet to one who knows what he's doing then. Or get the 7 month old's bits chopped off. He's definitely old enough and, if the female is pregnant, it's pretty blumming obvious that she isn't too young to be spayed, isn't it?

Oh, and if you are able to go out for 10 hours every and leave them alone (presumably indoors?) what exactly is so hard about having two litters trays and a closed door between them?

Why did the RSPCA not neuter the kitten?

Cat neutering should be carried out as early as possible in order to avoid unwanted litters. Most cats are sexually mature at six months, but some cats can become pregnant as early as five months. Therefore, the ideal age to neuter your cat is between four and five months.

I would be tempted to find a vet that will spey her, to be honest. Many rescues spey kittens far younger than this, and as this states, there is no reason to wait till she comes into heat:

OP - no-one is ganging up on you. i don't think anyone suggested that you would abondon them, it was just used in a generic sense from what i can see.

sorry you have felt victimised...but the issue of people 'accidently' letting their cats get pregnant (aaaah kittens!) is often reported here, and often in cats far too young to be carrying kittens i.e. 5 / 6 months old. it's a sore subject, but maybe some people need to offer advice in a warmer manner so people like you do not feel attacked.

please get your girl cat done asap, in the meantime do not let her out as the Toms will be after her.

hope your little boy's op goes well next week.

    Thank you for that.

the RSPCA dont do it for you any more that is something which is down to yourselves to get done now and yes i did ask if they do do it or if it is down to us to get done. and it is 100% down to us to get her done but as i said they wont do this as of yet as they say she is too young.
at the moment they are both indoor cats due to us recently moving but neither of them have been out at all so since we have had them both they have both never been out side.

and to answer the question about leaving them. i personally (as they are my cats i will do this the way i want to if you feel differently i am not asking for your opinion in any way so dont start on me yet again please if you feel differently please keep to yourself if your going to be rude, this is my personal opinion) do not feel it is fair on them both to lock them away in 1 room by themselves for a long amount of time. and it is not something i could or will do.

if they where to have kittens i would not be selling them for a profit they would be giong to family members who i KNOW would get them all done when they where old enough to do so,

i have been given a rough idea by the vet of how old she is and becasue of her size and age they will not do her yet.
he is getting done next week when they have fitted him in for and obviously she will still not be goin out so there shouldnt be a chance she can get pregnant.

  • Poor Klea1505, some folks tend to forget the be nice rule :(
really good news that she's not preggers.
I can't belive the RSPCA don't make sure they are spayed anymore, that's really short sighted! Different vets take different view on spaying but there is research out there which says you can spay very young if neccessary (which is peformed by some 'rescue' organisations with feral cats.
Sounds like getting your lad done is the best course of action for now.

Yeah it's quite big in America right now - Microneutering, where they are neutered at like 3 months old.

Also watch as your castrated tom cat will still have viable sperm for a month or so afterwards inhis wee sperm ducts!

When we had our dog from the RSPCA a couple of years ago she wasn't spayed but the RSPCA covered the cost of her spay with our vets. The only reason they released her un-spayed was because they couldn't spay her (she was in season) and she suffered great kennel stress so it was deemed safer and better for her to be rehomed and let us sort out the spaying but they would cover it.

I don't know the RSPCA policy for cats as I've never adopted a cat from them, but I am pretty sure the paperwork you signed will state it is your responcibility one way or another to ensure that the cat is spayed. This has less to do with age than it does with weight... Some rescues will spay as early as 3-4 months to ensure the cats do not fall pregnant when rehomed. So long as the cat is healthy and weighs enough then there is nothing stopping a spay before 6 months. My girl cat was done at 5 months, my boy at 6 months. The reason it was that way round was because i had a chorus of male cats sat outside my house all night and I didn't want to risk her escaping! She's a very petite cat and the vet saw no problem in spaying her at 5 months and she's never had a problem as a result 8 1/2 years on... If your vet doesn't think she's old enough to be spayed then please consult another vet to get a second oppinion. Until you get one or both done then KEEP THEM SEPERATE! It's NOT cruel! You're not doing this for the rest of their lives after all - just as a means to an end for now. It will certainly be less harmful to your female cat than a pregnancy this young... A bit of loneliness for a matter of weeks vs serious health issues or worst case death...
This isn't having a go, this is trying to make you realise that sometimes you have to do something short term for the sake of your pets no matter how "mean" it makes you feel at the time... :)

  • Hi Kayleigh,

I do think you have been wrongly "judged" and castigated by people on here and as onee who has had a similar experience I can sympathise.

We had a stray cat who came to us for feeding and we did not notice she was pregnant until she gave birth to 5 kittens in our garden shed!

We naturally took the kittens in after trying unsuccessfullyto find her owner.

Before we could find anyone to help catch and spay her she became pregnant again and had 8 more kittens some of whic we homed and some we kept.

I understand how difficult it is in this situation and we did have help with neutering and spaying from Cats Protection League but I wouldn't be without any of the cats now!
