Thinking of buying a Sat Nav

TomTom is far superior to Garmin in every way. I have both. I was given the Garmin. It takes about 3 hrs to find a signal. It also has no road block function and you can't avoid certain stretches of road.
I also had a garmin in the states (and a tomtom) and again, the garmin to an eternity to find a signal. The tomtom had got me out of manhatten and well into new jersey before the garmin found signal.

im quite happy with my garmin, i dont think its garbage. its an old i3 streetpilot, it doesnt do any of the fancy stuff the new ones do and the maps havent been updated in years but it does what it says on the tin and only cost me £50 a few years ago second hand....work permit granted!0 -
Doesn't sound like my Garmin or my wifes. Signal usually picked up inside a minute, has a detour function which tells it to avoid using the road your on and re-routes accordingly.The_White_Horse wrote: »TomTom is far superior to Garmin in every way. No problem in built up areas either.
This is a Nuvi 310D (no longer sold) and a Nuvi 760T0 -
Garmin for me too. Supposed to have more accurate maps in Europe than Tom Tom.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

TomToms mapping is what google uses- Garmin is the same as Bing/Microsoft.
I prefer the TomTom, good routing choice and the ETA is one of the best of any satnav, as well as the correction facilities. Both have upsides and downsides.
Don't however buy a cheap no-name rubbish.0 -
I second terryya recommendation.
Cheap and cheerful for £45.99 - Free delivery over £50 I think, so grab something else whilst your there.

If you don't like the default software you scan stick TomTom7, iGO, MioMaps, etc.... the review comments, or google will tell you how.0 -
I have not tried TomTom in the last 2 years, but they must have been using a very out of date "TeleAtlas" which didnt have houses 13 to 32 of my road on it and they were built in 1996. Google maps has always had those houses.flyingscotno1 wrote: »TomToms mapping is what google uses- Garmin is the same as Bing/Microsoft.
