POP settings for Yahoo mail?
Comments

Only the free @yahoo.co.uk email addresses have the pop feature, the rocketmail and ymail dont.
It's under mail options - pop/mail settings0 -
There is no problem setting up a Yahoo email account for POP/SMTP in Outlook. I have more than one Yahoo account set that way.I have just set up a Yahoo email address for use on Freecycle and I'd like to use Outlook 2003 as my mail client rather than the webmail interface.
I am having trouble finding the correct settings though as to how to do this, can anyone point me in the right direction please? It's the basic Yahoo mail, not Yahoo Plus.
Chose "Add New POP email address", then there will be several fields to complete. Firstly how you want your name to appear to others, then the Yahoo email address beneath. Then for the POP address you need pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk (assuming a co.uk address) and for SMTP you need smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk. For my ISP I needed to use their relay server address and not the yahoo one.
For the logon information it will need to be how you log on to your Yahoo mail with the password.
Then click the More settings button. Click the Outgoing server tab. Tick the "My outgoing server (SMTP) required authentication" box. Click the "Log on using" radio button and again add the yahoo address and password where indicated, and tick the "Remember password" box. Advanced tab - well I have port number 110 for POP and 25 for SMTP.0 -
Got the same problem but still cant get it to work
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'blah', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'blah', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [AUTH] Error logging in. Please visit http://mail.yahoo.com', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC920 -

sorry, after about 45 mins I realised it was pointless trying to pop3 the email when I would have to log in to yahoo groups to deal with members and group messages anyway
total .. DOH ! .. moment0 -
You don't need to visit the Yahoo Group page for that. You can approve new members by simply replying to their 'APPROVE' mail. You can even reject from there to as it gives an address to use to do that. Having said that it is easier from the Group page. If a post on moderation needs editing you need the Group page and for removing or banning a member should that ever be necessary.sorry, after about 45 mins I realised it was pointless trying to pop3 the email when I would have to log in to yahoo groups to deal with members and group messages anyway

But it's nice to have email notification on your Outlook mail which you probably have open for a lot of the time.
I'm thinking of changing my Yahoo Group to a forum - one of the free ones like SMF. vBulletin like this one at MSE is far better but it costs!0 -
Just realised reading this that I have had my yahoo mail account since the pre Yahoo UK & Ireland days. Since that version launched in Feb 1997, I've had a working email for well over 13 years.
That's shocking.0 -
savetillibleed - have a look at proboards (if u dont have a website n want a free forum)0

That's interesting - I'd never heard of them before. I do have a website and therefore a hosting account that includes forums. I have installed SMF on mine and been working on it for a while. But I didn't used to have paid hosting and if I still hadn't Proboards would have been just the job. Hmmsavetillibleed - have a look at proboards (if u dont have a website n want a free forum)0 -
