I have come to the end of my combined phone and broadband contract with Bt Broadband and i am thinking of going with Virgin as the cable is already connected from being with them a couple of years ago.
3 questions
Is Virgin Broadband faster than Bt as that is so slow on our wireless connection via the Hub?
Has anyone managed to successfully get the £150 cashback via Quidco for joining Virgin?
Will i be charged for the Hubphone by Bt?

Thanks

I got the Quidco (when it was £120 a few months ago) plus £30 refer a friend by placing the order online and then phoning up to ask about refer a friend before installation.

If you are out of contract BT will not charge you for the hub phone, no.

Virgins cheapest Internet is 10Mb - I am guessing you were on 'upto' 8Mb with BT? Generally speaking, you will get much closer to the specified speed with cable rather than ADSL (which BT use).
  • Thanks for the quick reply, yes i was on upto 8mg with bt, the hub was useless for all our devices, constant lagging and being cut off so Virgin sounds good with the cashback, is there a guide for completing it wholly online through Quidco, do i have to get a mac code first etc?

You do not need a MAC for a ADSL to cable switch, only for one ADSL provider to another.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

No you don't need a MAC as the BT system is ADSL (using the phone line) and Virgin is cable (using errr cable!). BT might charge a termination fee (possibly £18?) because you are not switching provider.

Just standard Quidco procedure - click through to the Virgin Media website from Quidco once you have logged in and complete the order online. Shouldn't be any problem as your house/flat is already cabled.

Virgin will give you a new modem and router.

The basic TV/phone/broadband bundle is amazing value just now - just over £13 a month with the Quidco factored in.
  • like macman said theirs no need for a mac code and the sign up process is quite simple ( even i did it )
If your lucky enough to be irish, your lucky enough ;)

Hey hun, im on virgin in the lincolnshire area, ment to have 10mb BB but we never really notice any issues.

    We have -

    XL Tv
    M BB (10MB)
    M Telephone

    Free V+ HD Box
    Free Phone line installation
    Free HDMI cable
    Free wireless router

£35 per month, reduced to £30 out of contract.

Now factor in how much a BT line rental costs £9.50, then your virgin is now down to £24.50, then £12 for broadband etc. Then its down to £12.50 for the tv..

A good deal, push them hard for what you want..and ditch BT totally inc line rental. You should be able to bring your number with you..

If you have any issues, tell them your friend had this package for £35 per month and see what they do. If need be, send me a PM and you can quote us as your friends etc so they can look at our deal.

    Regards

  • Thanks everyone, i know it sounds daft but do i have to cancel bt before the quidco process or afterwards when virgin is all sorted?

You don't have to cancel BT at all - it makes no difference at all apart from to your monthly outgoings! :)

You'll normally have to give 30 days notice to your old ISP.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Been on the site and it is £35 like you say but at the bottom it says plus £11 when you take a phone line, will this bump the price to £46 or not?
