  • It does make its spinning noise, its an iomega screenplay multimedia hd, you plug it in the tv to watch films etc, plus i stored some bits on it. Basically, the pc stopped detecting it at all, and the tv just displayed its loading screen with a no disc message

Best thing to do is if the files are very important, is to get a USB 2.0 TO SATA IDE connector with power adapter. They are on Ebay and have seen one under £10. These are great to test hard drives and cd roms without opening your pc case. Then all you do is boot up your pc as normal, plug in your faulty hard drive using the connector and hope it can read it. If it can't be read then as long as there is no personal info on it, it can be disposed off. Hope this helps, if your only using this connector once, you can re-sell on Ebay without losing much.
  • could you possibly point me to the right thing on pcword site, as i'm going there today, which means I could test it and send the hd off for a return straight away

thanks for all the help by the way

Had a look on their site but couldn't find it, if your going to the actual shop, ask them for a sata/ide to usb2 connector with power adapter. You might find it a bit pricey though. Also I found one on Ebay for £7.95 with free delivery which is dirt cheap. Will be getting one for myself as I test Hard drives that I buy and sell from carboots.
