New Customer Sky/Virgin + Phone Line

I haven't got a BT phone line, have recently moved house and im looking for the best deal i can get for sky/virgin.
I am looking for a package that gives me Sky Sports, Sky + box / V+box, Broadband.

But I haven't got an active phone line, so has anyone got any ideas of what is best for me? because i have also heard BT are doing a free phone line at the moment???

You don't need a BT line for Virgin Media, and the Sky requirement has a BT line opt out available for an additional £20 (unless you want Multiroom).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thanks for the reply. I understand i don't need a BT line for Virgin, but i was looking for the best package available. I don't have a telephone line at present.

no i think what macman was getting at if you want sky usually the prices are based on the fact with sky you have a bt/sky line as boxes are hooked upto a phone line for security now unless you want to pay an extra £20 on top of normal prices.
I think you need to decide what you want first e.g. virgins cost for the package you want including install as well as skys package including install costs bearing in mind i don't think sky install phone lines themsleves they can just take over from them from openreach now so with that option you would be looking at a bt line bear in mind if there is no physcial line outside at all to say telegraph pole you will be looking at a new install charge.

A £122.50 connection charge (subject to survey) may apply for new lines, but most people find they don't have to pay this. We'll contact you if it applies once you've ordered and we've made some checks.

so the old if no phone line with bt will be more expensive with sky/bt than virgin but depends what you really want but once bt line is in you find your broadband provider choice opens right up. also you havent said with broadband if you download loads gbs of info or just a very light user e.g. bit web browsing etc etc.

also bear in mind bt are now 18month contracts also i heard they have gone like the AA and make it an auto renewable contract after the first 18 months you then get another 18months on top etc you have to hit the notice bang on or you get caught again.

Hi There - I work at the AA and I thought it might be useful to clarfiy the point you have made about automatic renewal. We do renew membership automatically and members normally have 6 weeks to tell us if they do not wish to renew - 4 weeks before the renewal date and a 14 day "cooling off" period afterwards, just in case the member did not intend to renew but has not told us. This is done as a member forgetting to renew would bear a cost (and invariably inconvenience) far greater than their annual premium if, for example, they had to be towed off the motorway just once. Hope this is helpful.
