Always assume the buyer is stupid and then you're pleasantly surprised when 99% of them aren't!!My broad mind and narrow waist are slowly swapping places!!0

Iv'e just had a similar one. I always ask for paypal because I live miles from my bank and so paying in cheques is a pain.
Item sold, approx £60. Buyer then emails said they didn't have enough money in paypal and would I take cheque.
Reluctantly agreed, but only on condition that item is not posted until 2 weeks after cheque received.
Cheque arrived today, but I won't be able to pay in until middle of next week.
As the OP said, Cant buyers read?!0 -
As the OP said, Cant buyers read?!
In general nope!
We get no end of daft questions - usually makeing us laugh - the answers can usually be found in the listing anyway.
For example:
How much to ship too wherever? It says in the listing £xx.xx
Does it fit x bike? No the listing states it's for y bike.
If I win this auction can I choose a different colour? no the listing is for this colour.
I could go on and on.

I know what you mean! I consider Paypal's fees on top of eBay fees to be extortionate, and certainly not worthwhile for low value items, so I only have a Personal (non-fee-paying) account. I don't tick the "I accept Paypal" box, but state in my auctions that I can accept payments from a Paypal balance, or from a bank account via Paypal if it doesn't use a debit card. I still get customers trying to make Paypal payments using a credit card, and I'm amazed at the number who "didn't notice" that I don't take card-funded Paypal payments.Soprano wrote:I always state NO PAYPAL* in my auctions, but every 7 or 8th winner says "Can I use PAYPAL?"
Off topic, but my recent listing got removed as one of the options included was "cash". Some idiot went to the effort of emailing ebay to report this! I didn't even knew this stupid rule came into force.
*eBay own PAYPAL and I just point blank refuse to give them any more of my money for this service. People can pay by bank transfer if they want. I get no fees and don't have to wait for my account clear0 -
I think that not only are some people thick, but they compound the problem by not reading the listing. A while ago I saw a listing for a link to where you could get a PS2 game for very cheap ( I know against the rules) and obviously people weren't reading it as it did say this is only a link, but they were bidding it up as if it were the game.
I do wonder how many "bidders" are actually children. I have had a cheque that was obviouly written by a child and signed by mum/dad.0 -
What you could do since the buyer doesn't want to set up a PayPal account but does have a credit card is setup a PayPal donation button for a website. But rather than put the link on a website simply email him the link, they should be able to enter their credit card details without registering your account. So you have your money, buyer didn't need to setup an account, everyone wins!0

Well I agree it's quite possible they were being stupid, but they may have wanted to know the fabric type/weave (e.g twill, denim, knit etc).0 -
where is that quoted in ebay t&c?frivolous_fay wrote:Re: cash:
You can accept cash, BUT
You can't suggest it is POSTED to you
You have to have alternative payment methods available.
all i can see is
'Payment by cash is not recommended by eBay. While sellers may offer the option to pay with cash, they cannot require you to pay this way. If you suspect a seller may be trying to commit fraud by insisting on payment only by cash, please decline and report the member to eBay.'0
