Recovering postage.

Long story short.
Bought an item on ebay being sold as new.
When it arrived it was obviously not new.
Seller agreed that they had sent the wrong one and agreed to refund my money and get a courier to collect item, but then a few days later decided to lodge a dispute with paypal and escalate straight away to a claim.
Which now meant that it was in paypal's hands, but they did rule in my favour and got my refund for initial transaction, but told I would have to pursue seller myself for refund of postage to return item.
I have asked seller (politely!!) to refund the postage on 2 occasions now,but have not had a reply.
Just wondering if there is anything I can do as I had to fork out 22.50 to send it back or should I just put it down to experience !!

You can try pursuing it, but you're probably not going to get anywhere, if its a business seller you can report them to trading standards, but you're still not sure of getting any money out of them. What was the item that cost £22.50 for return courier?Long story short.

probably 10kg by SD with £1K insurance0 -
RFW thanks for the reply.
The item was an expensive and quite heavy piece of beauty therapy equipment & paypal insisted that it was sent by trackable means
The thing is if the seller had kept to their initial agreement to have the item picked up then I wouldn't be out of pocket now.
I found out by getting the manufacturers to check the serial no: on the machine that it was actually nine years old  and not new as seller had stated.0 -
I would try sending ONE more polite email to the seller, stating that the machine is actually 9 years old, so can you have the £22.50 return postage refunded.
If you don't get a response from them, then just leave factual negative feedback, warning others of the issues you had.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I'm a little confused. Seller offered to have courier collect but then you started a claim a couple of days later? Have I got that correct?
If so, if I was the seller I might be a little miffed you hadn't given me the time to sort out the courier.
I have a feeling I might be missing something here.0 -

The only way I can see you getting any response after what you did (no seller would take that kindly by the way, rather as an aggressive and very impolite act) is if you apologize to the seller, say you opened the dispute in a panic and could they please part-refund for the amount it would have cost them to arrange their own courier. They would still be well within their rights to completely ignore you, but if they think they might get a positive feedback out of it they might possibly be responsive. I wouldn't bank on it though. I'd have written you off as soon as you opened that Paypal claim Yes, the seller was definitley in the wrong in the first instance, but not giving them a chance to resolve in a reasonable time-frame was a bad move.0
