Can anyone help me out? about powergen electricity bill
I am with Powergen Economy 7 with RHT, no standing charge. Me and my husband live in a two-bedroom flat and we don't have gas. It is understandable we pay more than gas&elec. But today I get bill from Powergen and amount is 721.39 from 02/08/05 till 28/04/06 which is shocking price over £80/month.
There is part of bill detail:
Date 01/08/05 23/04/06
Day 21934 19734
Night 4785 4206
RHT Normal 88987 84378
RHT Normal 0 0
Day primary units used 419 kwh * 11.470p= £48.06
Day secondary units used 1781kwh*9.220p=£164.21
Night units used 579kwh*3.390p=£19.63
RHT Normal units used 4609kwh*5.150p=£237.36
Standing charge 0.00
Total : £469.26
There are several points I don't understand. What is RHT normal? We have a boiling tank in the house providing hotwater and heating which is only working during night time. Does it the RHT come from? And if yes, how could it be more expensive than night units? Do I need change company? The last tenant was with npower they seemed no complaints.
Thank you for anyone who finished this long thread. I will be very appreciated if anyone can help to explain this complex bill.

Others cannot really recommend a supplier, as cost vary from region to region.

Does your last bill have these readings?
Date 01/08/05
Day 19734
Night 4206
RHT Normal 84378
They should also say whether they are estimated actual or customer supplied usually (E) (A) (C) What are they on this bill what were they on the last bill?
What are they on this bill and the last bill? When you moved in did you get the meters read for you as a new tenant? How long ago was it?
Your figures add up to £469.26.....where did you get the £721.39 from?
Have you read all the meters when the bill arrived? what did they all say?
I have never heard of RHT before you must have three meters Day, Night & RHT0 -

What is above is just part of my bill for three different periods. The total amount is £721.39 .I pay by direct debit and this is the first statement I received for 9 months since I moved in.
The reads are correct although they are estimated. That is why I can't understand. How could be such huge usage for two people?
I have four reads from my meter. A1 A2 B1 B2. B1 is always 00000. According to the statement I got, A1 is day units, A2 is night units, B1 and B2 are both RHT Normal units.
I know my meter must be quite unique and the guy from Scottish Power said they can't accept me as customer because they don't have any price plan matching my situation unless I remove the Off Peak Heating Storge Meter (which I suppose is RHT).
Does anyone has the same situation like me?0 -
btw: RHT stands for Restricted Hours0

Did you get the reading read when you moved in?
Electricity is a very expensive form of heating0 -

It sounds to me that you are on some form of 'E10' tariff. i.e. there is a period, normally in the afternoon, that you can 'top up' your storage heating and that is the RHT charge.(the 5.15p units)
What I cannot understand is why your Night units @ 3.39p are so low - only 579 units, and your RHT units so high - 4609 units. You would normally expect them the other way around.
You need to check just when your heating does come on(I assume it is storage heating?). They should come on at the beginning of the E7 period(normally midnight to 1am) and you should only need to 'top up' if required. It sounds to me like they are on all the time during the 'top up' period.
That said I am afraid that for an all electric house £80 a month over 9 months is high but bearing in mind it excludes the summer months, is not excessively high.
Even if you manage to get most of your RHT usage at night it will reduce your bill by £7 a month or so.0 -

Thank you very much for your detail reply. While I can't find the "Thank you " button on the thread.
What you said does make sense. I will record reads twice a day everyday for some time to measure the total cost.
I got a letter from Powergen today listing the detail price plan.
No Standing Charge-- Economy 7 with Rht
First 225 KWh per qtr 16.50p
Additional KWh 10.46p
Night Units 4.16p
Rht Normal 6.41p
3%discount for direct debit per year
Unfortunetely, only Powergen or Npower could supply electricity with Rht for my address. It seems I don't have other choice but npower. I will call them today to check prices difference.
Thank you again for your kindly reply.0 -

Those rates seem very high to me - higher than normal E7 rates for both day and night units.
I would think that it is possible to change to a 'normal' E7 tariff. i.e. drop the RHT element.
I was on E7 and then changed to normal tariff. I kept the same meters but both totals(the night and day units) are added together and I am charged for all at the same daytime rate.
If you were on normal E7 the daytime and RHT units could similarly added together and charged at daytime rates.
Go on a comparison site and enter in details as if you were on 'normal' E7 and see what the tariffs are from all suppliers.0
