Mobile Contract Termination

I've been with T-Mobile now for about 6 months on a 12 month contract. This is just a simple question really, is there any possible way to cancel my contract with T-Mobile?
I know I can pay off the remainder but I was just wondering if its possible to find another way.
I would even settle for getting my £40 a month reduced to something really low so I can live without it. But the last time I phoned and enquired if I could reduce my package, they said no.
I'm really open to suggestions as I really want to get out of the contract as soon as possible. One of the main reasons is my handset which I got off them in the first place (a G1) has broken and I can't afford to fork out £xxx on a brand new phone with the same spec just to get the most out of my package.
Many thanks in advance for any advice given

No, you signed a 12m contract and that is what they will hold you to. Just use your SIM in a cheaper phone for the remainder of the contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Phone up t-mobile and ask them to repair the phone.0

until you complete the contract the phone really is theirs. If you stop paying your debt will be passed to a debt collection agency.
I suggest you get a cheap phone and continue using your package. Or attempt to get it repaired. If its just failed, you have a chance of getting it repaired for free by them, if it was accidental damage then you will have to pay. You may want to see if your home insurance will cover the costs.
On a side note, T-M are launching a pre-pay andriod phone soon (not G1/G2), which may be a half way house for you between a good phone and cost.0 -

But the phone is still technically _your_ property.0 -

It's a 2-way thing, though. They, too, are tied to the contract and your phone has a 12-month "fit for use" guarantee, as long as it has failed and not been broken by you. So, if it is a phone fault, they have to repair it.
But as far as the contract goes - you agreed to 12 months and that's what you are obligated to fulfil. Think sim-only next time.0
