I suspect that Albert Einstein, given the matters to which he devoted his thinking, would actually have been more likely to recommend switching it on ten minutes before you want to use it. :idea:
An economist would suggest you weigh up the financial cost of leaving it in standby against the financial cost of having to replace it prematurely as a result of continuing to switch on and off the component which is failing. :undecided
An ecologist would invite you to weigh up the environmental damage of leaving it in standby against the environmental damage of an early trip to the local landfill site. :think:
Gordon Brown would counsel you to go out and buy a new 68" one as soon as possible, putting it on your credit card even if you can't afford it. _party_
A banker wouldn't care what harm is caused to anyone or anything so long as he continues to receive a seven-figure Christmas bonus. :money:
