What time do supermarkets do cheapies?

Do you find your local supermarket have good deals on at certain times? I usually have a look in the cabinet with cheap stuff in but it looks unappealing on the whole. Creamy deserts which I'm not keen on or rather dodgy looking brown meat and I'm never too sure about the prawns.
Maybe I need to try harder?

I think it depends on each branchThere are several similar threads on the Grocery Shopping board, so I'll move this over.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
if a store has a poor stock control department there may be more reductions in the cabinet if theyve ordered too much in. can allways work the over way and they dont order enough in aswell.0

I was lucky enough to be in M&S Braehead last night at 5pm. There was at least 3 different assistants going round the shelves putting out loads of reduced items. The place was heaving but I stalked the assistants :oall round the shelves and came away with a trolley load of yellow stickered items.:j:jMust learn not to count chickens before they are hatched!!!!:D
Every day is a new challenge not a new problem!:p

The best day and time we have ever found for reductions was about an hour before closing on Christmas Eve in our local 24h Tesco - they were going to be closed the next day and only open for a short period on the 26th, so a lot of freezable stuff like meat was heavily reduced, as well as other short life stuff like dairy. Of course, there were huge crowds there too, but we still came away with a really big load of stuff which then took a lot of clever packing to fit into the freezer. It included a whole salmon for less than a fiver!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0

The only time I have found reduced items in M & S was by accident! This was late on a Friday afternoon - don't know whether this is their regular time as not been back since at that time. I got a few Italian meals (Lasagne, Cannelloni, Tagliatelle) all reduced to £1 and packs of 2 Chicken Kievs reduced to £2."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

our local tesco dont reduce anything less than a pound now they seem to be cutting down on what thyre reducing as well and you cna go in next day and the items are still there cause people havent brought them as its considerd to expensive tesco then gather it up and throw it away
the bakery on the other hand is wonderful it seems like totaly different staff thy reduce down to 10 and 20p for donuts bread cookies etcReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. That was a tad expensive, I got one for a quid at our local Tesco0 -
Unfortunately, too many people around here have got wise to Tesco Christmas Eve reductions and you can't get parked anywhere near them!
At my local Sainsbury's, the best time is 7.00 on Wednesday - a lot of chiller cabinet stock brought in fpr the weekend is "use by" then, and it gets well discounted (like 75% or more off), bread is marked down to 10p etc. And it was one of the cashiers that told me..!0 -

Wow! That is an impressive price. Was it a big salmon, or a smallish one? Ours was too big for the oven, and we thought it was good at the time - certainly less than half the usual price, and it did us several meals, so still a good buy for us at the time.:rolleyes:Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0
