We've had a Siemens double oven for 10 years now. Owned and used it from new. Sorry, I don't know the model number, but can tell you that it has had three repairs in that time which I don't consider too bad... the first was a replacement fan which was done under guarantee - and customer service was great. Then a few months ago the motor went (with a bang!), so we had that replaced, and had new door hinges fitted at the same time.
I'm the one who does most of the cooking and I love this oven! Pros: It heats up quickly, reliable, easy enough to clean, quiet. Cons: no grill handle (we kept our old one).0 -
really useful comments by all. many thanks.0

I have a Bosch FD-8602 electric twin oven with gas hob. It's fine apart from one thing :-
The Knobs (the ones that push in flush when off) are connected to their respective switches with a flimsy plastic adapter that wears away. This part is expensive and (I'm told) virtually unobtainable now.0 -
There's been a big discussion about single vs double ovens at work (sad i know!) Those who had a double said they liked being able to use a grill and an oven at the same time. However, almost every double owner said the bottom oven and grill was far better than the smaller, less powerful top oven/grill. Has anyone else found this too?
Some people with single ovens said they also bought a microwave with grill function, so they too can grill and cook at the same time, and don't need to have a separate microwave, which double owners need to have.
Having looked at reviews, they say the Siemens double ovens have poor grills in the top oven and that the general performance of the top oven is not that great. Have owners of this oven found this to be so?0 -
Imo, the top oven is not comparable to the bottom, the bottom is better. I think you'll find this is the same for most if not all double ovens. If you check the specs of each make, it's usual to have one oven (usually the bottom) more powerful than the other. It's something I noted whilst comparing ovens at time of purchase.
Personally I dont like microwaves with grills as they are more of a nuisance to clean.Herman - MP for all!0 -

Seneca you are spot on.
And the reason for this is - a double oven is a very British appliance and the best appliance manufacturers are German, so the only reason they make double ovens is for the British market. Where as their core business is single ovens for the home and rest of Europe market that is where most of their R & D budgets and attentions go.
A single oven will always be much better at the job than a double oven from the same manufacturer.
Just a small point to prove this, Miele have stopped making traditional British style single ovens. Their point is that they make a range of I think 7 standard single ovens then another 6 compact 45cm tall single ovens, 2 x 45cm tall combination microwave ovens, 3 x 45cm tall steam ovens, 1 x 45cm tall combination steam oven and 2 differnt sizes of warming drawers. So the idea is that you put the combination of ovens together that best suits you and your lifestyle. With all this choice why would anyone want to restrict themselves to a very old fashioned idea of a double oven?;)0 -
>they say the Siemens double ovens have poor grills
Why are you still wanting a Siemens then with that inherent problem.Stop there and look elsewhere.
Please spend a few minutes looking over the De Dietrich site. Very good engineering, compensated door hinges with smooth opening and closing action, triple glazed, cold to touch front glass, (for this alone we purchased one..) Pyroclean for a superior clean. Eliminate the need for manual cleaning with a pyroclean oven, Pyroclean ovens literally clean themselves. De Dietrich first introduced the world to the wonders of domestic pyroclean cleaning in 1982 and it was quickly established as the superior way to clean your oven. A CLASS Excellence, fan cooking, Lissium coated backing trays, halogen lighting, rotisserie (very good for chicken, etc), Eolyse Air Filter system, Auto-Saftey Shut Off, Child Lock, Extendable sliding shelves, digital controls, animated LCD display and more.. read a broucher below.
The taste of your cooking is a new experience no one mentioned that here...

I would sort of agree - DeDietrich make a nice oven, until it goes wrong! I am not saying they are any less reliable than any other make. Its just that they market them selves up against the likes of Neff and Siemens but its their service department or should I say non existence of a service department that takes the brand out of contention.
As a retailer of appliances there is no way I would touch them because they haven't got a service department with their own service men, they rely on having independent service agents around the country. You can get some really good agents that are very knowledgeable but more often than not they know very little about DeDietrich as they have to work on lots of brands.
As a retailer, we only sell Miele, Siemens and Neff brands as they have their own service departments with full national coverage of service men that work for the relative companies and only work on those brands so therefore this generally guarantees a better level of service if it should be required.0 -
Good enough for me. Not had any problems yet but they are there Saturday and Sunday!!

Agreed! -My Father who was a general electrician was 'trained' as a DeDietrich service engineer, he had no other appliance experience but was set loose after a couple of days training by the manufacturer. The spare parts were stunningly expensive but not very reliably engineered, he often had to change hob control boards several times on the same hob and had a crate of duds.
He continued to work as an electrician mainly for a small independent electrical contractor, picking up DeDietrich jobs as they were farmed out by the company as subcontracts. Personally I don't think this is the premium product you are paying for.0
