siemens ovens opinions

Hi folks,
We're currently in the process of getting a new kitchen and are looking into the different sorts of appliances/brands. We are after a built in oven and as gas is not really an option, are looking at electric. We've had a look at brochures from siemens and neff. The thing is neff are seemingly recommended by everyone, yet opinions on siemens are difficult to find. What are the pros/cons of each brand?
Also, what are the differences between getting a double oven or a single (besides the obvious!) There are so many more to chose from in the singles and that we are now considering getting a combi/micro and a single.

I have a Neff series 3 double built in oven. I am very pleased with it. The other make we considered was Fisher & Paykel. I chose a double oven so I can use the oven and grill at the same time.0

We have a Siemens double oven (for the same reason as cally). It has a fast heat up option which means the oven temp can reach 200 degrees really quickly. It also has pull out oven shelves but they were an optional extra. The pull out rails were very expensive and not at all value for money but very good to use in practice.
Was surprised to see the grill pan had no handle, you'd think for a very expensive oven they would have at least supplied some sort of handle. :rotfl:
Not sure about the Neff models but the doors on mine come off completely for cleaning.
Had mine for over a year now, no problems.
I considered Neff until I read some opinions about the quality not being as good as it previously was. There again I'm sure you'll find many many people who are very happy with their Neff model, just like Cally says.I think they're all much and such now tbh and it all comes down to which you like the look of best, lol.

which siemens model did you go for. if you don't mind me asking? Other than the lack of grill pan handle, any other issues? Did yours come from a kitchen/appliance dealer or did you get it fom the net? I've not seen much actually on display, just a few on websites.0

bosch/siemens/neff are all part of the same company. use to be bosch/siemens then in the 80s neff joined. so all three should be comparable with each other.0

there just as good as bosch, not quite as fancy as neff..i used to fix them & would recomend them0

We replaced a Neff Combi with a Siemens combi last year. Pleased with the Siemens, except for one difference.: The Neff (9 yrs old) used to turn off completely if you pressed the stop button twice. The Siemens insists on 'oven cooling' whether you want it or not. Fan noise continues, electricity consumption continues (albeit at a low rate, since no heat).
It may be that the newer Neffs are the same nowadays, but worth checking.0 -

Ours is the HB55M550B and we ordered it online from Dixons as they were the cheapest and we had a discount code at the time.
I see they've changed all the models since I bought mine.
Not had any issues with it, or any 'small annoyances' either. It's easy to clean, does what it's supposed to and looks the part (imo).Herman - MP for all!0 -

Just because they are all part of the same group, doesn't mean they are the same quality.
Siemens and Bosch are the parent companies since their merger in 1967. Siemens has always been promoted as a superior product over Bosch.
Neff was aquired in 1982, and as a brand, sits between Siemens and Bosch. Likewise BSH aquired both Gaggenau and Thermador in the 90's, both of which supply high-end appliances. (Thermador in the USA and Canada, Gaggenau everywhere else).
These two companies, along with Neff, Constucta, Ufesa and Viva make up BSH's "Special Brands"
They also have a number of "Regional Brands" which service Spain, Greece, Turkey and South America, again all aquired for their strengths in their own market/field.
To say they are comparable is like saying that Porsche, Volkswagon and Skoda are comparable. And they aren't...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

I fairly recently fitted a Siemens HB55MB550B (IQ500 range), this is actually a current model as I had to wait ages for it to come into stock.
In the order of things, Neff is a bit of a variable (some good some not so) Bosch are excellent and Siemens are the top of the range. The Bosch and Siemens appliances are in many cases near identical, the Siemens models perhaps having fancier controls, the oven cavity and hardware being the same.
I had settled on a specific Bosch model until I discovered that fortunately as an employee of a branch of Siemens I could buy products at 35% off which brought a near top-of-the-range Siemens down to the best price mid range Bosch I could find, might as well have the best!
I have been deeply happy with it. Its well lit, spacious and has self cleaning catalytic liners all around in both ovens, there is a special program to refresh them with a high heat. That just leaves the glass which has a single sheet covering the whole orifice of each oven so it can be removed and cleaned with the strongest chemicals.
As mentioned it has a fast heat function that uses all the elements to get to temperature quickly (about 6 minutes, great for hungry kids). It is allegedly intelligent and if it thinks you have gone on holiday and left it on it will shut off. The control knobs can be pushed in flush but only if its respective function is set to off, makes a quick check its all off simple, all the knobs are in!
Temperature control is digitally controlled and there are segments to show how much its heated up or cooled down. I have found it so much quieter than our old oven, in fact its whisper quiet.
Downsides - no grill handle but I kept the one off our old oven and it works fine. Although it has triple glass the doors still get a bit warmer than i expected. Setting the timer to beep requires good reflexes as it flies at a heck of a speed when setting.
I have just come back from holiday at a villa with a single oven and missed my double big time. I am in the habit of putting plates in the top oven and setting to 60 degrees to warm plates or a bit warmer to keep part the meal hot while I get the rest of it ready.European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.0 -
My Neff came without a grill pan handle too.
Bought mine online from appliancesdirect.co.uk. Good prices and service.0
