Somebody pinched my photo

Hi, listed something (pretty rare) last week, it sold and buyer very happy. Am planning to list identical item today (there are only two listed at the moment), buyer has advised me that someone else has copied my photo, sure enough, he has. Thing is, if I list my item now using my original photo, buyers could well assume that it is me that has pinched the photo and wonder if the photo is a true representation of what they are buying.

Is there anything one can do to prevent this, or does one just have to accept that some ebayers behave like this?

I would just add that the photo is of the actual item and is one you took.

Did you have another of these rare items?

If you have hosted your pic on a site like photobucket, either replace the image with a !!!!!! one or add text, stating Seller ID stole my Image, or not on a photobucket type site report them to ebay.
  • Thanks for replies. Moneymaker - yes, hoping to list exact same item today. Thing is, there would be only 2 listed, both with same photo, buyer therefore has no idea whose photo is authentic.

Who/how do I report this please?
  • Thanks, have reported to ebay.
  • OR: does your photo have a bit of your home in the background? If so, I'd add another pic of that bit of background and an explanation saying - I can prove this is the genuine photo. becuase here's that wardrobe!' or similar!
No, Mr A, that is NOT 'Great news'!!:D

    Wombling totals: Oct = £243.32 - £93.32 over target!
Nov Wombling Tally: £27.36 so far... behind target :(
  • Why not just take another photo of your item and forget about the other seller?

I can see this might annoy you but maybe the other seller doesn't have a camera.

I don't have several things but it doesn't give me the divine right to go and steal them does it!

No, I'm not justifying the other seller stealing the photo, merely suggesting what I would consider to be a relatively stress free conclusion.

Apologies if you found my suggestion so proposterous, I'll refrain from posting on any threads you might be planning to read in future.

Still no excuse for stealing your photo. Its copyright theft plain and simple. Report to ebay also contact the seller and inform them of this (place them on your blocked bidders list to avoid any retaliation)
