Mother opened a 0% card to transfer my balance!

My mother opened a 0% card to transfer my cards onto them so i wasnt paying any interest. To cut a long story short she is demanding the money for the balance of the cards. I want to pay the cards direct but she says she just wants the money in her hand! where do i stand? I dont have the card numbers to pay the card direct. Is there anyway I can pay off the card without the card number? I dont want to give her the cash directly to her which she wants.

Perhaps you could make the story a little longer because your post doesn't really make sense

I would gather that gander thinks mum may spend the money instead of repaying the cards and would rather pay off the credit card balance directly. Makes sense if mum is gonna spend all of it. But then the card and the debt is now mums and if she wishes she can spend it. your duty is to pay it off whether directly or to her but if she insists that she gets the money in hand i think you should give it into her bank account so that you have a record of repaying it.

Why? And please give us the 'long', or longer, story.

Your mother's credit file/history is at risk here. Sounds like she wants to protect it by making the payments on time herself from her own account (maybe by direct debit as an insurance policy?)...and I don't blame her.
  • Basically she thinks i balanced transfered more than we had agreed. So she got a little naffed off with me and is demanding the money owed on her card. she thinks the card debt is money owed to her not to the card. The card only has my balance transfer on it roughly £4000. She is demanding i give her £4000 in her hand rather than me pay the card direct. I have manged to raise £4000 (brother loaned it to me) and I want to pay the card direct but i do not have the card number to pay it off.
  • we have always paid card on time and always the correct amount. guess its a matter of principle that i want to pay the acrd direct
  • I'm just confused about the whole thing.

It is owed to her though. She lent you money (and chose to do it via her credit card). Surely the 'agreement' was that you owed her the money?

Maybe it's because she has a 0% offer running and would like to put the £4K into a savings account for x months to make a little interest?

I'd pay her, and get a receipt if it'll make you happier!

Personally id give her the money, get a receipt (or pay it into her bank account so it shows on your statement) then thats the end of it. If she doesnt make the repayments then the debts in her name so she'll have to deal with it. And you have no blame in it.

Your mother was kind enough to help you out and has saved you a lot of interest.

It's your mother's credit history at stake, not yours. Swallow your pride and be the grown-up now.
