  • re the food problem I have always found them reasonable at replacing food if there is something wrong with it

I would contact head office with name of store and manager

So how are Lidl not complying with the legislation? You return the goods to them, they confirm they are faulty, they refund you.

OK they do it differently to other stores in that the whole process is handled by Head Office, rather than in the store, but that doesn't mean that it is illegal. It would only be if they took an unreasonable amount of time to issue a refund would there be an issue.

Hi has anyone every tried taking faulty goods worth over £10 back to lidl. I did this yesterday and was told by the manager that he would take the goods back but as the value of the item was over £10 he would not be able to refund me and that the goods would be sent to head office to be checked out. Then i will get a cheque through the post. Is this correct. If not what if anything can i do.

I had to take a deep fat fryer back and got told we will send u a cheque - ok i wasnt very happy and told chq would take up to 3 weeks but it did come sooner but then again you have to wait the week for the chq to clear >:( so now i just dont shop there at all.
The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'm not sure but I think it is illegal for good old health and safety reasons to take food back and expect a refund when there is nothing wrong with it. Obviously, this is not the case where the food is 'faulty' where you are certainly entitled to refund or replacement.

Has anyone ever tried returning a food item below £10 at lidl. My wife tried this today and the manager told her that they have a no refund policy on food and that she was being pathetic and stupid if she expected a refund. She asked where this policy was displayed in store but the manager just walked off into the store room and would not come out. Where do you think I stand? anyone?

no shops give refunds on food unless there is something wrong with it

    was there a problem ??
  • I had probems with a DVD player. Two store managers refused a refund as I did not have the receipt. I wrote to Head Office and they told me to take it back to the local store but the manager again refused to do anything without a receipt.

My second letter to Head office quoted the Sale of Goods act and mentioned Trading Standards.

I received a cheque for the refund this morning "in line with our refund policy".

  • Last year I had to take back a couple of Christmas lights which were under £10 but even then they had to phone Head Office for a refund. They were obviously faulty as the plug had over-heated and started to melt

I don't see that as a problem - that is what I would expect any good shop to do! It actually annoys me when I take faulty goods back to Argos and they don't even bother to open the box!

I did take goods back to LIDL once (very definitely faulty) and they refunded me so quickly that Head Office could not possibly have checked out the problem! The next time I went to LIDL the very item I returned was on sale. I know it was the one I bought because I always marked returned good!

And the item was on sale in the 'special offers' section - even though it was not reduced! I also saw another item that I saw someone else return when I returned my faulty goods in the same 'special offers' section at the same time!

So, I contacted Trading Standards at they went round straight away and, as a result, all the goods on the 'sepcial offers' shelf were removed. LIDL admitted to the Trading Standards officers that they were all returned goods and none of them had been checked!
