Using Phone Sims in Internet Dongles?

I've just got a phone deal on Orange that gives me 500mb of data allowance for web browsing each month. I probably won't use the phone to surf that much, but I wondered if I could take the sim out of the phone and use it in an Orange or Unlocked Dongle on my Netbook.
Would it work OK?

I considered doing the same thing too - there would be no problem with this however, I would advise being careful incase you overuse your minutes - easily done on a much faster computer compared to a slow mobile.

It can be done, but as ste_coxy said be careful (very careful) because 500mb isn't all that much when you think about it.

I had a 3gb download allowance (roughly 6x more) and went over that occasionally and got charged huge amounts.

Just last week I had a windows update that was 500MB in one go.

I wouldn't use the sim for updates (would only update when I'm at home connected to Sky wireless). I've had a 12GB pre-paid "3" dongle since Xmas and have still got 10GB left, so 500MB would be more than enough.

i thought 3 had an expiry time for their prepaid mobile bb?
