Mmmm, file sharing, a bit of an issue with that I have, with music anyway.

I like to think of myself as a bit of an audiophile (read... nerd:D). The downloads on Itunes etc are encoded at 128kbps, this is approx 1/10th of the quality of a CD or lossless version, they then charge, what, 79p for it. Absolute rip off. CD's at £15 a pop were a rip off, this kind of music format is 10x worse for the same money.

Encode music in CD quality and then I might buy it and so would 1000's of others.
I am a biblophile (read... another nerd). The cost of ebooks is extortionate. Usually they are no cheaper than the printed version which, given the fact that the cost of producing an ebook must be virtually nil, is ridiculous.
As for file sharing, it's the uploaders who have to be careful, as a general rule of thumb, no one is hugely interested in the downloaders.

EDIT Not that I really know anything about internet piracy other than that which I read in the newspapers

Well certainly transporting the real thing is costly, in my spare time I drive the odd artic from Glasgow down to Manchester
There is absolutely no way you are a trucker.
I used to work in the haulage industry and to put not to fine a point on it, I never came across an HGV driver who could walk and talk at the same time.

Glasgow is my favourite city in the whole world. Only in Glasgow could you stop someone for directions and be offered a swalla o' their cerryoot at eight in the morning.

    It's not my usual job
You have restored my faith in my own infallibility.
I once had an HGV driver phone me up to tell me he was lost somewhere in Poland. I said where are you supposed to be.
He answered, "hang on a minute" and I could hear him muttering and rustling through papers, he came back and answered, Bournemouth.
That, unfortunately, is a true story.
Peter, where ever you are, I often think of you...............

I think the problem has actually come from this board, or from certain members of it.
Constant clicking of the abuse button brings unwelcome attention to our corner of MSE. We become a problem that demands a solution.
So my advice to those who do the reporting, think before you click or you may, very easily, bring down the entire board.

BTW, I notice I am getting loads of thanks, shame they are all from the one person:D

Sometimes yes. But I'm guessing you haven't had any of the nastier or more suggestive pms? I know I open myself to the latter (which are infrequent) and I am able to just laugh any of them off, but not everybody is robust (nor IMO, though I know I'm in the minority, should they have to be).

We have a reputation on this forum, I think overplayed, for our rudeness, and I think sometimes people dropping in are probably pretty handy at reporting. I didn't used to report, but since the last big Martin telling off I have reported. (and on other boards here too). I have also threatened to report withou then feeling the need to.

re truckers, I'm still desperate to do my HGV test. I suppose the four wheel drive we've got negates the need for it somewhat. :(

ebooks are expensive (and often a bit of a let down, having not had the best -or any- professional editing).

I'm very cross with myself for losing some shopping today. I hope someone says something hilarious to stop me being so glum and self despising - stupid, careless, wasteful me.

How did you lose your shopping, LIR?

Quite impressed to discover that people can get thrown out of Argos. It's like being banned from Boots, or something - just not something one imagines happening.

If it makes you feel better, LIR, I am currently a snivelling wreck with a tissue clamped to my nose and little pink spots in the middle of my cheeks. I can't stop sneezing and I want someone else to whinge at other than my OH, who's bored of it.

I don't know. I've left it somewhere. We (my DH and my dad were shopping too) all were carrying the bags at some points and I guess one just...went astray. :( I'm glad it wasn't my dad's stuff, I suppose thats the best way to look at it.

Some one has got a free bra and pants, which will cheer them up, no doubt, but while other people have big shoes to fill, my bra takes some filling, I hope the lucky finder is such a woman.

Re your previous comments about dodgy PM's, I'm not sure the references to the size of your bra will deter future admirers?

Still at least it's only undies. Could be worse - could be chocolate.

Impressed you go undies-shopping with your dad, on reflection. :)

Think its probably tougher on the men: one's father and husband being asked, ''What about this?/This or this?'' Or more often simply, ''Hold this, please''

I'd never go clothes shopping with my dad - not since he sprayed perfume in my eye (quite astonishingly painful) at the perfume counter at a trip to a department store in my early teens. I'm sure he thought he was being helpful too. :)
