making your own bread - worth it?

I've been meaning to do this for ages .... but I have to confess - one of the reasons I've not done it so far - is that the yeast seems to be quite expensive - even at the supermarkets (unless it's just where I live
)
Can I ask where you guys buy your yeast from ?
Thanks

Where do you shop? Morrisons have fresh yeast. 4 packs of about 25g for about 40p. I always use fresh yeast, never tried dried. Freeze any that you dont think you'll need.Loved our trip to the West Coast USA. Death Valley is the place to go!0 -

The closest to us is Mr T .. (one of the smaller supermarkets), the next closest is a Mr S & Waitrose ... Asda & Morrisons are both a good drive as are Lidl & Aldi :rolleyes:
Thanks

Tescos do dried yeast - 8 sachets for 70p, we bought 2 packs and have had 2 very nice loaves from it so farAnnual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500
Debt payments 2012 £433.270 -
Last year I made loads of my own bread, but it goes off so quickly (after a day) and I get exhausted at work so was really struggling to find the energy at the end of the day to make it. We only have a smallish freezer so making lots at the weekend then freezing was not an option.
I have recently found that Morrisons own Stoneground Wholemeal at 65p a loaf is brilliant, it's the cheapest nice bread I've had!
I will always try and make my own when I have the time, and often found Asda were selling off Allinsons dried yeast off cheap in the reduced and damaged section which always helps!Clearing debt to save for a simple wedding.Starting 2016 With debt of £77000 -
Have just posted this on Flylady thread as well - Asda (well ours anyway) are doing home baking 2 for £1 including hovis bread mixes - the ones I got were all long dates (july/aug) - might be useful for people :jMortgage £119,533 going down slowly

I buy the Doves Farm yeast. I was sad enough once to measure out how many teaspoons were in it - it was 39! :rotfl:, and one for every 500g of flour makes it even cheaper than the sachets. Also, with that yeast you don't need to have two risings - just put your dough straight into the tins.0
