No, it's not. Yes, you will save money, Yes, the bread will taste better, but... you will probably end up eating half a loaf the second it comes out of the cooker, and swell up like a whale. Home cooked bread is very bad for your health! Beware!“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Ive made my own for the last week.Wasnt that impressed with the dried yeast ones. And have tons left .But yum when i tried fresh yeast.

If you are thinking of making your own bread, its so easy to do, have a look at this thread

I started using the five minutes a day method about 3 mths ago, and have never looked back. You literally mix everything up, and don't need to knead the mix.0 -

OK so I made bread :T I did 1/3 wholemeal and the rest white flour.
And it rose, and rose and it's not a brick and it's completely edible :T (so much better than my attempts at artisan bread - which ended in a mushy flop). But no it doesn't taste like supermarket bought bread - it's nicer.
Thank you thriftlady for making it sound so easy and pointing out the Delia way. It really was easy and fun too!
And no it really doesn't take long - just you need to keep going back to it for 5 mins or so - after a 2 hour rise, again after a 1 hour rise and then when it's nearly baked. It was much easier than I thought it would be.
So.... thriftlady - now how do I turn that into all the other things you mention:D:D:D (I read the pizza and flatbread instructiosn) I want sticky buns and cinnamon rolls and naan and foccacia
Must try and get some proper yeast next....working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

It is a good recipe isn't it? I'm so pleased for you:j

newlywed that looks brill! Well done! i remember you saying the other day you had a problem with the Artisan so good job! I have to try it out now...... Mum had brought bread rolls on Friday and i have wheaten so will use up what I have first.
Was on the phone to my Mum yesterday and told her i was converting the mini baguettes into garlic bread for the freezer and she started to laugh. I asked why and she said " your adaptations, I'd have binned it on Saturday" . I told her this is why my freezer is full to bursting and hers isn't! :rotfl:
Anyway, i might try tonight..... Are wholemeal/white - is one or the other easier? I bought brown flour yesterday in tescos, but it doesnt say wholemeal? Was just a bit confused as to what is what..... Also bought seeds one so was going to try a threeway (breadwise.....):rotfl:
Can you part bake them and then freeze? Think i will have to look for the main Hand made bread thread and read it all .A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Two fairly generous slices actually made an extremely tasty sandwich for my lunch
Cool thanks thriftlady - will have a read of that later
I think anyone who has had a disaster with the artisan bread gloop ought to give this recipe a go instead - ok it has to be kneaded, but only for a few minutes each time - and it doesn't take up loads of room in the fridge like the gloop recipe does
zippychick - I had to borrow some room in mum's freezer for my damson pies I made - love damsons - hadn't made pastry since school so was pretty chuffed with how they turned out (with the help of be-ro and mum's SR flour tip).

When you buy the iced finger buns from the bakery - is there sugar added to the dough at all? or is it just white bread with icing on?

It makes no difference which flour you use as regards ease of making. One tip though, if you use all wholemeal flour it won't rise as well as Newlywed's.
Delia says to warm the flour first -I never bother it makes no difference;)0
