Me and my friends are moving into our student house in a few weeks and normally have had our parents to do things like this for us. Iv been put in charge of internet but was wondering if anyone had any tips on who to go with and any tariffs because at the moment not much makes sense to me.
All i have right now is maybe going for a bundle with internet, tv with virgin media but i wasn't too sure about the phone line i need and if i still need a BT line.
Any help will be appreciated
thanks

Hiya.. there's a student broadband guide here: http://www.chooseisp.co.uk/broadband-guide/articles/the-students-guide-to-broadband.html
If you go with Virgin Media you need a Virgin Media telephone as well - you should check this with your landlord though as Virgin can be known to disconnect the BT master socket and then the next tenants (or the landlord) will have to pay £120 to go back to BT.
Do you really need cable TV? If not, I'd suggest just getting freeview TV and then getting a good broadband (and phone) package, maybe with a short contract, Be broadband are doing 9-month contract plans now especially for students.
Your other option is just each get mobile broadband - which would save on the bill calculating arguments, house-tied contracts and let you browse the web anywhere you like.0 -
Or have a look here for providers and there ratings from actual users.

If you are in a Virgin Media cable area then you don't need a phone line for broadband. Check your postcode on their website to see if you are. If you can get it then it will be £15/mth 1st 3 months and £20 after that. Probably be a 12 month contract but sometimes they let you finish early if you let them know its a student accomadation.
If you want to be really savy then sign up on line thru quidco and get £150 cashback. http://www.quidco.com/virgin-media/ :money:
If you do have to go through your BT line be careful that, who ever you get, the contract is not 18 month.0
